Great Plains Communications is looking for an experienced, service-focused person to lead the daily operations of our Voice Engineering team. This position is responsible for ensuring that the voice & VoIP infrastructure is functioning properly, reliably, efficiently and ensuring customer traffic is provisioned and maintained effectively.

Other duties include:

  • Applies technical leadership experience to design, implement, and support highly available voice solutions.
  • Leads the Voice Engineering team in engineering the voice core network components including Class 5 switch infrastructure, VoIP infrastructure, and SBC systems.
  • Acts as a primary SME for the Ribbon and Meta voice core networks and vice products as well as VoIP and PSTN connectivity.
  • This position provides technical expertise in voice & VoIP functions such as network design, engineering, implementation, integration, and escalated support. This includes direction for voice network equipment additions, changes, and cutovers.
  • Manages the telecom voice / VoIP network by means of various management systems. Analyzes problems dispatched by NOC personnel so issues are corrected in a timely manner by the Voice Engineering team which ensures customer satisfaction.
  • Manages the planning and engineering, of the net gen voice platforms. Works with vendors and other Engineering and Operations teams in planning and turning up new market and voice solutions. Provide technical expertise in implementations of voice network infrastructure.
  • Assist both the Director of Network Engineering and the Network Engineering team as a whole with overall design and network integration with Transport, Access, IP, and other COE Systems.
  • Analyzes trouble data for trends and initiates correction action to district personnel as appropriate.


Bachelor's Degree preferred; 5-8 years' experience desired. Successful candidate must have strong customer relationship skills, time management skills, and written and verbal communications skills. Must also possess the ability to think strategically and to work effectively with a diverse group of co-workers and customers. Must be able to work non-standard business hours and be on call as necessary.
