Description
Remote: This position does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis.
GM is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and will influence the future of transportation utilizing the principles of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Our ECU HW Center of Expertise (COE) team is on the forefront of this work with the mission to:

  • Enable the future of transportation, including GM's vision of zero emissions, zero crashes, and zero congestion
  • Reduce complexity through common processes and solutions
  • Establish/Maintain a library of re-useable ECU elements, interfaces, and reference circuit designs
  • Enable software reuse for GM's Ultifi technology
  • Provide enterprise sourcing strategies for most cost-effective designs
  • Align technology roadmaps across hardware domains
  • Assess Supplier capability to enable leveraging across ECU domains
  • Refine & align ECU Sourcing timing with Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) activities supporting SAFe principles


To achieve this mission and embolden our culture, we are seeking experienced, motivated, and forward-thinking engineers to join our team in areas of Operations, Tools, Requirements and Specifications, Design and Analysis, and Partnership Development. Multiple openings in each area.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Model and foster GM's Core Values and Winning Behaviors
  • Support Program Increment (PI) planning, visualize and manage the flow of work from ideation to analysis, implementation, and release.
  • Drive commonization of the ECU HW COE in key area of assignment
  • Become trained in core competencies relating to area of assignment, including SAFe certification


Operations

  • Create and maintain the ECU HW COE process of engineering
  • Develop and maintain PFMEA, Validation, and process of Engineering best practices related to ECUs
  • Provide support as needed for field service/manufacturability, new supplier quality processes, supplier plant audits, and VHIL activities related to ECUs
  • Work cross-functionally as the main channel of communication for BOD/BOM, best practices, common solutions, and metrics for ECUs


Tools

  • Develop and maintain templates for new hardware requirements, specifications, and best practices to enable common software
  • Design of new common software debugging tools applicable to multiple ECU families
  • Support of configuration management tool to document ECU HW relationships
  • Create and maintain library of common ECU designs and elements


Requirements and Specifications

  • Analyze complex systems and create electronic hardware requirements for sourcing and implementation
  • Create and maintain library of common ECU requirement elements
  • Create and maintain library of commodity specific ECU requirement elements
  • Create and maintain Statement of Requirements (SOR) templates


Design and Analysis

  • Perform worst-case analysis, create design guideline and reference circuit designs
  • Optimize the designs for ECU hardware by working along with project management team
  • Help understand the dependencies and limitations of the hardware
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to create and maintain Bill of Design and Best practices


Partnership Development

  • Establish enterprise wide sourcing strategies for most cost-effective ECU designs
  • Align technology roadmaps across ECU hardware domains
  • Assess Supplier capability to enable leveraging across ECU domains and establish criteria to assess new Suppliers
  • Establish methodology to separate and perform the ECU HW and SW sourcing separately
  • Significant interactions with GM Purchasing, GM Engineering and Tier1 ECU Supplier organizations in a wide breadth of ECU designs and technologies


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in a core field (Mechanical and/or Electrical and/or Computer)
  • 2+ years of experience in Product Development or related activity
  • High level of competence in writing and comprehending hardware requirements
  • Working knowledge of product design and development cycles
  • Working knowledge of ECU in vehicle communication networks
  • High level understanding of hardware and software design and failure modes in electronic modules
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills involving complex systems


Additional Description
Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of SAFe Agile Release process including PI/ART/SCRUMS
