Help us start a new DevOps release practice!  This is a great opportunity to make an immediate and long lasting contribution to Horace Mann.  You will participate in the development of best practices that contribute to higher quality change and release activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain change and release artifact templates, process documentation and the yearly release calendar.
  • Partner with project teams and change owners to define timelines, creation of component listings and tracking of project status during the change ticket life cycle.
  • Establish change and release readiness criteria and track status of projects prior to release.
  • Create the consolidated release and configuration plan, resolving dependencies and ensuring change management process for release candidates is followed.
  • Prepare for CAB meeting and project implementation review meetings to identify omissions or contention with other projects.
  • Direct the off-hour release activities which include coordinating the deployment of release components, providing status updates of the deploy activities and resolving issues encountered.
  • Manage risk that may affect negative outcomes
    • Facilitates release planning meetings with key department members to identify proper sequencing of release packages. Ensures that issues and risks are identified, understood, and dealt with in a manner that mitigates risk to scope and schedule.
    • Defines and documents the release recommendation for each release and/or change to production. Includes release scope, schedule, deliverables, and roll back plan. Reviews release recommendation with key stakeholders.
    • Manages and maintains all release management schedule and communications for accuracy and updates.
    • Attends change management meetings such as CABs and deployment planning meetings to collect data and information pertaining to the release.
    • Coordinate regularly occurring releases, out of cycle releases, and emergency fixes - this includes driving the determination of release dates and times with the Scrum Team and Management team, attend change management meetings such as CABs and deployment planning meetings to collect data and information pertaining to the release.
    • Ensure change tickets are created and fully prepared prior to releases, including testing documentation and all necessary approvals.
    • Own the orchestration and provisioning of infrastructure resources and environments
    • Manage the deployment schedules through project management best practices, across the organization.
    • Maintain the release calendar and evolve it as needed, define and document the release recommendation for each release and/or change to production.
    • Keep teams updated on release schedules and process changes using the most efficient communication methods
    • Conduct release review meetings, capture feedback and ensure improvements are incorporated for future releases.

Requirements

  • Ability to improve and maintain new and existing processes and frameworks.
  • More than 5 years of experience with 1-4 years of relevant experience effectively coordinating projects or releases big and small across teams. Hands on software development experience using object-oriented programming. Code Merge.
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle experience
  • General understanding of Agile development practices
  • General understanding of ITIL practices
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or an equivalent degree
