Systems Administrator

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT The Systems Administrator will ensure the client systems are available to employees and members at all times. This requires monitoring the systems and ensuring they are operating at peak efficiency. This will include configuration, monitoring and tuning of the various centralized systems. He/she is responsible for daily administration of Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Windows Server Operating Systems, Group Policy, Skype for Business, BlackBerry MDM and DFS Server Services. Daily activities will include monitoring of enterprise backups, provide support for permission and access requests, daily support requests and maintaining a consistent and healthy environment. He/she will also provide second level technical support to other members of the ITO technical team. In addition, he/she will establish a baseline to measure system performance at regular intervals to carry out a proactive approach to systems administration and management. Incumbent's assigned hours will primarily be 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, but will also include evenings, nights, and weekends, as required. The incumbent will participate in a 24 hour on call rotation for after-hours support services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Must have knowledge of virtual systems and cloud technologies.
  • Administration of Windows servers, including installation, configuration, decommissioning, testing and troubleshooting. Use of administrative and monitoring tools to provide proactive monitoring of systems, maintain system efficiencies and ensure high availability.
  • Maintain system backups, backup storage and restoration of systems as required. Monitor and maintain system configuration to ensure data integrity and reliability of data restoration.
  • Daily administration and monitoring of the Microsoft Exchange environment to ensure correct system operation, adequate resource availability, forecasting and performance metrics. Knowledge of Exchange Online, Microsoft Office365, Outlook, OWA, ActiveSync, IMAP and SMTP.
  • Administration of Microsoft application releases, Microsoft system upgrades and monthly evaluation and installation of security patches. Knowledge of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or a centralized patch management system to manage the deployment of new applications, patches and upgrades.
  • Administration and maintenance of Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Administration of Microsoft's Distributed File Systems. Manage file/folder access for personal and departmental shares to maintain security consistency.
  • Administration of remote branch servers, printer servers and web servers. Microsoft SharePoint experience a plus.
  • Administration of automation tools to facilitate software deployments, server/system administration/configuration and reporting.
  • Provide the necessary expertise to ensure all systems are maintained and following vendor best practices.
  • Support service desk tickets, telephone requests, walk-up support requests.
  • Perform general storage administration of Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices.
  • Create and update system documentation, standard operating procedures, operational reports and status updates as needed.
  • Experience supporting security best practices and managing risk for IT infrastructure in enterprise sized environments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.

Knowledge of and experience with Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, Microsoft Exchange 2010/2016 and Exchange Online, Skype for Business, SCCM and other Microsoft related enterprise applications is required.

Knowledge of following technologies are required: Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Clustering, DNS, DHCP, NetBackup, Veeam, Server hardware, SAN & NAS Storage.

Other skills, knowledge and abilities include:

Experience managing enterprise printing, Office 365

The successful candidate will be skilled at using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio to create configuration and technical documentation.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Candidate must be comfortable participating in meetings, delivering presentations and presenting ideas to peers and management levels within the organization. Excellent listening skills and follow-up are required to ensure customer satisfaction and to manage customer expectations. Candidate must have strong organizational and time management skills to manage projects, technical incidents and problems as well as other work that is assigned. Candidate must be able to work independently and be self-directed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related academic area. Equivalent experience can be substituted for the education requirement on a two-to-one basis.

The following certifications are required:

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): Windows Server (Exams 410, 411 and 412)



The following technical certifications are highly desired:

  • ITIL Foundations V3 Certification
  • VMware Certified Associate (VCA6-DCV)



Minimum of 5 years' experience as an enterprise systems administrator or in a related position on physical and virtual Microsoft-based systems ideally in a financial services organization (or related industry).
