Systems Administrator I/Systems Administrator II
What You'll Do:

  • Support design / development and system testing and integration activities.
  • Work with system users to move data within the system.
  • Work with team to organize database datasets.
  • Data collection and associated data surges expected 4 times per year.
  • Manage data requests from multiple external organizations.
  • Maintain and track custody of inventoried hard drives of data.
  • Understand and follow security protocols:
    • Pre-test campaign coordinates collection plan with external organization
    • Post-test works to ensure all measured data is collected, formats documented, data distributed, and inventoried
  • Example Data types:
    • Airborne Sensor Data
    • Atmospheric data: Weather station data, radiosondes
    • Field Experiment data: all-sky cameras, radiometers
    • In-situ ground truth
  • Understand Ground System Data Management.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You'll Need:

  • Systems Administrator I - Related Bachelor's and 2 or more years of related experience; or HS Diploma and 8 or more years of related experience.
  • Systems Administrator II - Related Bachelor's and 5 or more years of related experience; or HS Diploma and 11 or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Associate's, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for additional years of experience.
  • Related certifications may count towards years of related experience.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Security + Certification is required for the position.
  • A current, active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph is required.
  • Administration experience with Windows and UNIX. Admin experience with either or both highly desirable.
  • Experience with a CI/CD tool suite, and knowledge of how they work.
  • Experience with Jira administration.
  • Experience with Jenkins administration.
  • Experience with scripting and automation, including Ansible.
  • Willingness to become a Jenkins subject matter expert.
  • Solid automation background with the ability to troubleshoot / solve complex problems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and people skills with ability to interface with senior lead engineers and program management personnel.
  • Ability to multi-task, to support multiple customers, and to work within specific schedule and cost constraints.
  • Excellent teamwork skills - The ability to interact productively with end users, analysts, other personnel, and customers in a diverse team setting.
  • Ability to work and collaborate in virtual environment where team members are not co-located.
  • Self-motivated and able to function with minimal oversight.
  • Self-directed with good organizational skills.
  • Solid understanding and implementation experience with SCRUM / Lean / Agile / Scaled Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge and experience with software engineering best practices and work instructions.
  • Customer engagement/relationship management experience or prior consulting experience.
  • Detailed working knowledge of CI/CD processes and best practice.
  • Detailed working knowledge of DevSecOps processes.
  • Excellent computer skills and/or programming experience in one or more languages.
  • 1-3 years process experience generating process documentation/tooling aids and instructing others in a SW process area preferred.


On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.


Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.
Relocation for this position is available.
Compensation & Benefits:

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR I: $87,000 - $117,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
  • HIRING SALARY RANGE FOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR II: $105,000 - $142,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
