We are seeking a Senior Vice President to join our growing Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) financial communications team. This new role reports to the Global Head of ESG, Financial Communications & Capital Markets based in New York.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategy for accelerating the growth of Edelman's ESG strategic consultancy on the West Coast, including build-out of West Coast ESG team
  • Drive client strategy, activities, narrative, stakeholder engagement and communications to address ESG trends and factors that align with and support business goals
  • Work with client ESG leaders, business lines and global functions to set ESG goals and KPIs in alignment with industry benchmarks and business goals; participate in and manage client internal working groups
  • Oversee materiality assessments and other internal and external benchmarking analysis
  • Collaborate with Edelman's ESG reporting experts on the development and execution of clients' non-financial reporting across communications channels
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of client ESG initiatives and develop appropriate materials, presentations and reports to share progress with stakeholders (e.g., Board, C-suite; employees; investors; clients, customers, and consumers; suppliers; regulators; civil society organizations/NGOs; community members)
  • Develop comprehensive stakeholder engagement and communications plans, with ability to execute across all communications channels and formats (e.g., slide presentations; financial and non-financial reports; websites; social media; investor decks, investor days; shareholder engagement materials; employee engagement via intranet, blogs, etc.; client-hosted events and external conferences, panels, etc.)
  • Build ESG platforms and thought leadership for C-suite and Board members
  • Recommend potential partnerships, memberships, third party validators and organizational commitments related to ESG on behalf of clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10-15 years of experience in ESG strategic consulting, investment stewardship, and/or corporate ESG leadership role(s). Meaningful experience advising Boards and C-suite executives; working in transactional and/or customer/client relations settings; and leading global ESG reporting initiatives. Prior experience managing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow client engagements
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly develop comprehensive understanding of clients’ businesses and their missions, as well as their key stakeholders: investors, employees, regulators, media, vendors, customers/clients, partners and other businesses/organizations, etc.; able to impart this knowledge to account team members
  • Strong writer, communicator and translator; able to tune in and speak the language of different internal client functions and external client stakeholders
  • Superior executive leadership skills, including: ability to supervise staff by motivating, coaching, consistently providing feedback, holding them accountable and conducting their reviews; overseeing quality and operational performance of accounts, ensuring work quality and deadline/budget adherence; and collaborating with other Edelman practice leads to deliver top-quality, interconnected client service across all accounts
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; able to make well-considered recommendations and decisions in a rapidly changing landscape
  • Change agent; likes new challenges and getting out of comfort zone
  • Bachelor's degree and relevant work experience; MBA, JD or other relevant secondary degree preferred
