Job Description

Verisk 3E is looking for a Substance Compliance and Classification Specialist III to be based in Germany. We are open to this position being fully remote.

Maintenance of chemical component data for Verisk 3E Base Components

  • Assessment of toxicological and ecotoxicological studies for hazard evaluation of substances:
    • Research relevant study data
    • Summarize study data
    • Identify and evaluate the validity of data used for classification and toxicity assessments
    • Fill data gaps using read across approach
  • Determine GHS hazard classifications for chemical substances according to national and international standards
    • Draw scientifically sound conclusions based on regulations
    • Provide rationale for basis of classification decisions
  • Quality assurance of assessments and maintenance
  • Train team members

Assignment of regulatory content data for Verisk 3E Base Components

  • Load regulatory content data with Open content connector (OCC) based on substance identification
    • Evaluate appropriateness of dataset
    • Assign substance groups
    • Ensure consistency of component assessment and regulatory data
    • Self-assess incomplete regulatory lists
  • Support content update process
    • Autoload new regulatory datasets
    • Group load of regulatory datasets
    • Prepare tasks for regulatory update
  • Quality assurance of regulatory content assignment
  • Train team members
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned
    • Translation process for substance names
    • Private component maintenance
    • Content update tasks
    • Precheck component requests
  • Maintain a strong understanding of global hazard communication regulatory requirements
  • Support the internal component management guidance team with evaluation of upcoming changes in international law and assessment of the impact of such changes for the substance database
  • Update existing guidance documents and provide written guidance around new requirements
  • Ensure all new and existing substances are managed up to most recent regulations, to assure compliance with global, federal, and state laws
  • Coordinate workload and tasks within the team
  • Perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined on annual Performance Plan
  • Employees at this level are experienced professionals who know how to apply theory and put it into practice
    • Independently perform the full range of responsibilities within the function
    • Possess broad job knowledge
    • Analyze problems/issues of diverse scope and determine solutions

Qualifications

  • B.Sc/M.Sc./Ph.D in relevant or equivalent discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Environmental science)
  • At least 4 years of experience in product safety
  • Experience in hazard assessment of chemical substances under GHS/CLP (minimum 3 years of documented experience)
  • SAP EH&S experience is a must
  • Knowledge of chemical compounds, families, or chemicals products (incl, household consumer products, personal care, food contact, and food)
  • Ability to explain complex regulatory issues to a mixed audience
  • Strong decision-making and execution skills
  • Proven teamwork and customer relationship skills
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Passionate about his/her work, self-motivated and driven, thorough and focused, action-and-results oriented
  • Strong skills in English both written and spoken
