OVERVIEW :
Do you enjoy creating unique and highly technical engineering solutions to address unusual challenges? Are you curious about how a vehicle design develops into reality, where it all begins? The Integration Design Engineer is responsible for integrating and balancing vehicle models with Design in partnership with Architecture, SMT, Performance, Human Factors and Manufacturing. We are at the very early stages of the vehicle development process working at a systems level to integrate innovative technology and cutting-edge design. The optimal candidate has a passion for the automotive industry and can work objectively to balance the vehicle for the customer while working hard to enable design. A considerable amount of creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment.
Hybrid Work Location : This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite as required for key meetings/workshops on a minimal basis.

  • Over-see GTO development on all programs
  • Provide mentorship to new and/or inexperienced GTO IDEs
  • Develop training material for IDEs
  • Assist GTO IDEs when early issues arise (be on call)
  • Collaborate with GTO IDE, Design and Engineering (DRE & Supplier) to resolve late or urgent issues
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and processes (IE liftgate trim, Blackout, etc.), industry trends, competitive benchmarking, Best Practices and criteria updates. Support ATW projects to ensure Design needs are being met.
  • Lead GTO expert IDE team
  • Provide timely updates to team members, share wins & creative solutions (as needed or in expert team meetings)
  • Seek to identify and implement studio GTO process enablers that reduce redundant IDE work
  • Evaluate all program theme surfaces to address GTO (Vision) issues and provide early corrective guidance
  • Develop and/or strengthen relationships with Interior SMEs (attend appropriate meetings and/or workgroups)
  • Studio expert for 201U
  • Ensure the ZL File structure matches the Surface assessments


Additional Description
Required :

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering or established substitute (Technical associates + Mich. Tech Univ. DE Certificate during DE transition period)
  • 10+ years' experience in a related area
  • Demonstrated skills on CAD - Unigraphics systems
  • Basic understanding of Engineering Specifications
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of automotive design
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes
  • Aptitude to integrate complex systems and a passion for design
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others


Preferred :

  • Engineering Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Courses preferred: Statistics, Mechanics of materials, Vehicle/occupant packaging, Integrated Design
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification
