As the Sr. Strategic Sourcing Specialist, you will support Medtronic's Brooklyn Park, MN manufacturing site and will be the Sourcing liaison with Site Operations, Planning, Quality and Finance organizations in the resolution of supply related issues.

A Day in the Life

In this role, you will participate and/or lead Sourcing strategic activities, especially those involving product life cycle and supplier management including but not limited to: product/part phase in-phase, Last time buy/Strategic and excess & obsolete processes, local sourcing related initiatives, supplier delivery performance and inventory management. You will also support commodity management in pricing, terms & conditions, and quality agreements with key strategic suppliers.

You will:

  • Maintain and promote strong relationships with suppliers, Supplier Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Finance, Quality, Commodity Management and any other internal customers.
  • Liaison with the Commodity Management and Sourcing Engineering Teams in the development of commodity strategies, inputs and discussions about supplier score card and performance reviews (Quarterly Business Reviews).
  • Attend plant production meetings- report status of key material issues/updates. Participate in escalation meetings. Monthly Production schedule to be sent prior for Buyer to do analysis on firm orders and work with team to escalate issues to meet production needs.
  • Production plan review with planning - review shortages
  • Monitor Strategic Buys (SBY) / Last Time Buys (LBY) management and maintain tracking file
  • Provide updates on Purchase Price Variance report and inventory reserve file updates
  • Support audits: Initiate supplier selection related audits (Contact/schedule) & site support for regulatory body audits
  • Manage supplier capacity issues and critical and ongoing delivery issues
  • Escalate issues as defined in the Purchasing Center Escalation Policy
  • Supports standard cost setting
  • Performs special projects as assigned including but not limited to: new product introductions, the coordination of phase out activities and material cost reduction initiatives (PPV)
  • Support excess and obsolescence process and raw material disposition at sites as needed
  • Provide guidance on site prioritization on conflicting situations
  • Participate in Cash Flow Initiatives



Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience



Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Materials Management or Supply Chain related field.
  • Expert understanding and experience with integrated manufacturing software systems
  • Expert knowledge and usage of SAP
  • Working knowledge of Demand Flow, JIT, K-Loop, Lean Manufacturing
  • Must have knowledge of industry terminology, processes, work-flow and materials.
  • Experience in leading and influencing negotiations, project management, troubleshooting and problem-solving analysis, strategic thinking and collaborative team building.
  • Exposure to supply chain, planning, purchasing, materials and inventory control environment
  • Solid computer skills: i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project. Advanced Excel knowledge (vlookup, pivot tables, formulas, macros, etc.).
