Responsibilities

Principal is searching for a Sr. Privacy Manager to join the Enterprise Privacy Office in support of our businesses. You'll be part of a growing enterprise privacy team working together to ensure we earn and retain the trust of our customers and employees every day.

In this position, you'll work closely with business partners in Principal offices around the world to maintain privacy compliance and respond to new international privacy obligations as they arise.

    • Serve as the privacy advisor to the organization for the enterprise. Assist Chief Privacy Officer in overseeing all activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of and adherence to the organization's policies and procedures covering the privacy of, and access to employee and customer information in compliance with international, federal and state laws and the information privacy practices of the enterprise.
    • Assist Chief Privacy Officer with ensuring compliance with all company privacy practices and procedures and all relevant privacy laws and regulations. Help drive consistent application of sanctions for failure to comply with privacy policies for all employees and business associates in partnership with Human Resources, Information Security and Risk, legal counsel, business units, and other key entities as applicable. Assist Chief Privacy Officer in managing delivery of privacy training to all employees, business associates and other appropriate third parties.
    • Maintain current knowledge of applicable international, federal and state privacy laws, regulations, and accreditation standards, and monitor developments in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance. Partner with and act as liaison to Information Security and Risk to stay abreast of system related information security plans throughout the organization's network to ensure alignment between security and privacy practices. Provide development guidance and assist in the identification, implementation, and maintenance of organization information privacy policies and procedures in coordination with management, administration and legal counsel. Initiate, facilitate and promote activities to foster information privacy awareness within the organization and related entities. This includes ensuring initial and ongoing training and orientation occurs to all employees and other appropriate third parties.
    • Under the direction of the Chief Privacy Officer, partner with key stakeholders as needed to represent the organization's information privacy interests with external parties (federal, state or local government bodies) who undertake to adopt or amend privacy legislation, regulation, or standard.
    • Assist with administering the process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and taking action on all complaints concerning our privacy policies and procedures in coordination and collaboration with other similar functions and, when necessary, legal counsel. Under the direction of the Chief Privacy Officer, lead company response to privacy related regulatory exams and issues.
    • Assist with performing initial and periodic information privacy risk evaluations and related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with compliance and operational assessment functions to identify and mitigate risks. Identify, communicate and manage required changes within the business unit and provide proper reinforcement to assure success. Participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring of all business unit vendors, to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed. Escalate issues, including resource needs, requiring attention to Sr. Management as needed.


Qualifications

We're looking for someone with:
  • Bachelor's degree plus 8+ years of experience required
  • Excellent time management, project management, integration, facilitation, planning, decision making, analytical and written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work with people at all levels, including outside consultants and vendors and be able to influence others without formal authority
  • Build and maintain relationships and facilitate collaboration and communication
  • Results oriented and able to adapt and deal with ambiguous and/or complex situations and manage expectations
  • Must be able to execute effectively in a matrix management environment
  • IAPP Privacy Certification and experience working with international stakeholders across different time zones strongly preferred

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range

$116000 - $162000 / year
