Responsibilities:
Caterpillar’s Java Center of Expertise (COE) is seeking an individual to assist with shaping the direction and strategy for Java development within the Caterpillar enterprise. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter capable of thinking with an enterprise perspective while still being flexible enough to keep the business running. Incumbent works closely with Java application developers and infrastructure services teams throughout the enterprise. Incumbent will be helping Java application developers troubleshoot production issues, provide on-call and day-to-day incident ticket response, provide application support and development with Java COE owned products and services, identify opportunities to automate and develop automation solutions to streamline operations tasks.
Job duties/Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Provide coaching to developers based on Industry best practices and information shared to Caterpillar’s Java development community
• Provide application developer perspective during project discussions and decisions -- be an application developer advocate
• Maintain a working relationship between Java application development community and Enterprise Web Hosting team to continuously improve the infrastructure offerings
• Develop processes, identify process improvements, and/or process automation, to provide reliable services across functional lines
• Assist developers in integrating applications with various Caterpillar systems using SOAP, REST, MQ, etc.,
Basic Qualifications:
- Understanding of the application development lifecycle
- Basic understanding of networking infrastructure
- Ability to collaborate with team members and application development teams
- Experience with Java EE standards and applications
- Experience with common application development tools and IDE’s (Git/Eclipse)
- Strong application troubleshooting skills
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Memory analysis tools like Eclipse MAT, IBM Java Heap Analyzer
- Java application profiling tools
- Application Monitoring tools (Introscope or similar)
- Spring/Spring Boot framework
- Exposure to cloud computing in AWS or Azure platforms
Additional Qualifications
- Requires a relevant degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience. The incumbent should be knowledgeable of the relevant programming languages; computing hardware and software; infrastructure elements, and current development processes and tools.
- 5+ years in development and support work in Java related technologies.
- In addition, the incumbent should have a good knowledge of Caterpillar policies and procedures, and a general understanding of Caterpillar’s organization.
