This position largely interacts with equivalent levels of personnel in the manufacturing area. Good oral and written communication skills are required to routinely manufacture saleable products, identify problems and implement solutions in a team environment. Effectiveness in this role requires a functional knowledge of Thermo Fisher manufacturing process and Standard Operating Procedures, great attention to detail and the ability to see opportunities for improved effectiveness. The job encounters work situations of moderate scope and complexity and identifiable factors. Works on problems where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Incumbent exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine action. The incumbent normally receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignments. 85-95% of time spent on work order processing of bulk formulation, filling, capping and labeling.

Complete production and quality analysis of reagents, components and finished products in accordance with SOPs, work instructions and the Production Schedule to ensure timely availability of efficient products of high quality.

May perform other related duties as the need arises and/or assigned.

Description Summary

Work in a team based environment to manufacture research and commercial cGMP grade products that are scientific in nature for use in the life sciences industry.

Education:

Preferred Qualification: BS (or AS + relevant experience) in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or other related life science field.

Experience:

Preferred Qualification: +1 year experience in a life science/biotechnology field.

Demonstrated ability to carry out scientific procedures and make recommendations for improvement required. Experienced in the use of scientific laboratory techniques, equipment and materials required for molecular biology products. Good problem solving skills are preferred.

Key knowledge includes:

  • Understanding of cGMP and ISO guidelines in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience with collecting optical density measurements.
  • Experience with precise formulation of bulk reagents.
  • Experience with filling, capping and labeling using precision liquid handling tools and processes.
  • Experience in manufacturing diagnostic products for research and regulated markets.
  • Experience in completing documentation (GDP) and data collection in a GMP laboratory.
  • Experience following established procedures and manufacture following SOPs
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work on tasks of moderate complexity, both independently as well as in team-based environments under minimal direction.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency in the use of basic laboratory techniques, equipment and materials required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Participates in practical process improvement initiatives.


Preferred Qualification:

  • Understands principles of controlled documents and change control. Can partner to process documents including PR, CAPA, OOT, CCR.
  • Experience partnering to manage or lead a special project



Working Conditions:

Works in both a lab environment and manufacturing facility with specialized equipment. Employees will be required to operate automated and semi-automated equipment. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 40 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Will be required to enter 2-8C and -20C storage walk in units to obtain and store manufacturing materials. May intermittently sit at desk for a long period of time to answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
