Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Performs all functions and responsibilities of a Field Meter Service Representative, including energizing and disconnecting secondary house services. At times, functions as a Commercial account collector on non-paying commercial customers.

- Performs electric secondary service work: single and 3 phase secondary service connections up to but not including 277/480 volts, at the meter, service head, loop and pole.

- Performs electric meter work to include: trouble shooting partial service conditions, replacing and re-attaching broken meter blocks and boxes, modifying or rewiring company equipment for ERT meter installations, and drop/tie off of secondary service lines.

- Installs, removes and changes out Surge protectors.

- Responds to and makes safe reports of illegal connections for gas and electric.

- Performs gas service work at the meter, riser and the curb valve.

- Follows the Section's Safety Work practices & Procedures Manual, Distribution's Work Practices Manual, and complies with OSHA guidelines regarding procedures, clothing and proper use of equipment.

- Operates a bucket-van.

- Climbs poles and ladders as needed.

- Performs other job-related or secondary duties as assigned which will include but not be limited to: 1) being trained and certified to perform Gas Emergency response work and to assist during Gas Emergency Outages; 2) being trained and certified to provide support during electrical storm outages, patrolling, loop restoral, and public safety stand-by.

- Sr. Field Meter Service Representatives are considered Essential BGE personnel and subject to emergency call in, unscheduled overtime, and Saturday work schedule.

Note - Work can be physically demanding. Individual will work under adverse conditions, required at times to enter vacant / abandoned properties. Physical stamina necessary to carry and climb a ladder, and perform heavy lifting.

Qualifications

Job Specifications

- Thorough knowledge of Company's gas and electric metering procedures and equipment.

- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and exercise good judgment dealing with the public.

- Demonstrated ability to successfully complete the Company's Metering Comprehension Evaluation Training for single and 3 phase service, up to but not including 277/480 volts.

- Demonstrated ability to complete the Gas Meter Certification program.

- Must pass U.S. Dept. of Transportation chemical test (required).

- Must possess a valid driver's license, and the ability to meet Company driving standards and secure a CDL medical card.

- Must pass a U.S. Dept. of Transportation Physical Examination (required).

Education/Experience:
Four years experience in Meter Services as a Field Meter Services Representative or the equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience
