Sr Director, Procurement
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a Senior Director of Procurement, reporting to our VP, Real Estate, Facilities, Procurement, at our headquarters in Dania Beach, FL. Chewy is one of the fastest growing e-commerce enterprises around and is rapidly disrupting the traditional pet specialty channels. You will lead the organization’s indirect purchasing/procurement/strategic sourcing function.
You will lead the purchasing, negotiating, and contracting expansion across the entire enterprise. This is the head of the procurement function, with the ability to build and lead a growing team, in a company culture that values employee development. You will have a seat at the table as you work directly with the senior executive team and cross-functional stakeholders to make a real difference.
The procurement team consists of team members across all corporate, customer service and fulfilment center disciplines. The team manages all indirect spend for the company, executing a high volume of projects. We are looking for a strategic leader to build upon the foundation set, scaling the team and execution to meet growing business needs. Key focus on building efficiencies, scaling to stay ahead of Chewy’s high growth, creating and implementing the company’s strategic goals and long-term strategy. This position will be instrumental in the continued growth of Chewy, driving EBITDA savings, with a significant impact on company profitability.
What you'll do:
- Select vendors and lead major negotiations to procure all items other than Inventory (e.g. Technology, Service Agreements, Labor, Office Supplies and Equipment)
- Drive and demonstrate P&L savings across spend categories, communicating results to executive leadership team
- Conduct analysis of spending patterns for savings opportunities across all categories
- Develop our preferred vendor portfolio, monitor internal compliance to preferred vendor usage, and develop/enforce standard required terms and conditions
- Play a large role in the implementation and management of a vendor risk mitigation platform
- Review specifications, analyze market and select potential suppliers, lead the RFQ process, analyze prices/quality expectations/delivery dates/terms, negotiate prices and terms, and award and communicate orders to suppliers
- Work in conjunction with cross-functional teams to select suppliers for new products, lease vs. buy decisions and optimize supplier base
- Evaluate/manage vendor/suppliers through KPI’s
- Contract administration, quality assurance, modification of special terms, and contract closeout or termination
- Establish and enforce procedures to ensure proper procurement standards, processes, and controls for the organization
- Evaluate Org and growth plan, and develop 2-year strategy to scale
- Collaborate with cross-functional business partners to assess current procurement processes and implement a roadmap for continuous process improvement
- Lead the formal negotiation and bidding process with potential suppliers and negotiate all contractual terms for agreements
- Prepare a complete view of all indirect goods and services spend and maintain executive alignment regarding the top priorities for improvement
- Establish annual budget, metrics and goals around indirect procurement and develop reporting that will capture savings, compliance, and variances
- Monitor contract compliance and manage the preparation of RFIs and RFPs as contracts expire
- Establish contract management practices that proactively plan for contract renewals and competitive reviews or renewals
- Build a strong network of effective relationships with external partners and identify any gaps in service or opportunities to establish new partnerships
- Develop vendor compliance guidelines and scorecard to measure performance against established KPIs
- Domestic travel as needed
What you'll need:
- 10-15+ years of procurement leadership / strategic purchasing experience; BS/BA required, advanced degree is preferred
- Advanced education and/or professional certifications, (CPSM, C.P.M., CPSD, CPIM, SCpro, etc., preferred
- Management and leadership of teams with 30+ headcount
- Deep experience in P2P/procure-to-pay/source-to-pay enablement
- Lean/Continuous Improvement and Change Management experience
- Demonstrated success in identifying large savings in procurement and deliver plans on time and within budget
- Comfort in high change environments with a demonstrated comfort with ambiguity and ability to prioritize
- Ability to lead effective teams and work effectively with all levels within an organization
- Systems savvy (ERP, eSourcing, requisitions/POs, supplier portals, etc.)
- Exceptional communication skills, written, oral, presentation with both internal and external stakeholders
- An owner mentality and an entrepreneurial drive
- Strong negotiations skills, a history of creating value for an organization, passion for achieving and demonstrating results
- Ability and experience managing contracts across departments
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills
- Ability to comfortably work in an intensely deadline-oriented and data driven environment
- Strong Analytical skills and detail orientation
