Purpose of the position

The Sr. Director of Enabling Technology will maintain responsibility for the underlying enabling technology components of our K-12 Virtual School curriculum, product, and technology including but not limited to Enterprise Architecture, Quality Assurance, and Data Governance. The position reports to the SVP of Product and Technology and works closely with the PVS Executive Leadership Team to align with and enable the strategic vision of the organization. The Sr. Director of Enabling Technology will collaborate with key stakeholders and business partners including Product Management & Engineering, Marketing, Customer Success Partners, and finance providing key resources and deliverables to our customers.

Core tasks and responsibilities

The Sr. Director of Enabling Technology will lead and serve the teams and functions that are shared across curriculum & software development.

  • Enterprise Architecture- Own, define, and evangelize PVS architecture at the strategic enterprise level, educating product, engineering, and marketing consumers while partnering with Global Pearson Technology & Architecture on best practices and corporate strategic direction
  • Quality AssuranceOwn, define, and evangelize quality design, engineering, and assurance for the PVS Curriculum & Software development teams. Establish the strategy, the plan, and the execution of quality best practices for the benefit of students, families, and schools.
  • Data Governance- Own, define, and evangelize data as an asset, as a product, and as a service to Pearson and PVS Customers. Establish a strategy to define, operationalize, and embody data retention, deletion, privacy, encryption, and security through Data Governance Policy.


To ensure these teams success, the Sr. Director of Enabling Technology will also be responsible for

  • Continuous Improvement - Create a culture of Continuous Improvement in which the Enabling Technology teams continually strive to identify opportunities to deliver increased service value to their internal business partners.
  • Talent Development - Lead the effort to attract, engage, recruit, and hire a winning team that is focused on creating a winning product and a winning culture. Developing people by listening, reflecting, and coaching - lead by example, and foster a positive culture around failing fast.
  • Builds and fosters effective working relationships with key internal business partners across the organization to create an environment of transparency and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate and work cross-functionally with the marketing, product and customer services teams and address stakeholder concerns.
  • Support Customer Services, Engineering, & Product Management in delivering capabilities and innovations that enhance the value proposition of products in our portfolio in alignment with the product strategies and Pearson's overall strategy.
  • Ensure alignment with key stakeholders on product development plan and expected returns from new capability investment. Incorporate stakeholder inputs into the development of product improvement plans.
  • Track and report on key performance metrics of the various shared services teams' outputs and deliverables

Skills and Experience

  • Business Relationship Management leadership at an Enterprise level, managing equally up and down the organization
  • Track record of effectively delivering large scale programs through Agile practices with consistent velocity/throughput improvements
  • Comfortable leading matrix-based teams (direct, indirect, partners, etc.)
  • Proven ability to successfully lead people through organizational changes and challenges
  • Analytical Skills - Strong ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Evidence of strategic & analytical thinking, negotiation skills, problem-solving, planning skills, and good judgment is required
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 10+ more years of supervisory experience in managing and leading teams
  • 5+ more years of software delivery experience
  • Agile & Waterfall execution
  • Previous education experience a plus
  • Proven track record of first-class leadership skills; able to inspire and motivate teams around a continuously evolving agenda designed to delight our customers
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking/long term opportunities with operational focus

  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Google business applications preferred.
