Senior Vice President, General Manager, Military

Our growth has led to exciting new opportunities including the ability to expand our product portfolio to include outdoor solutions.  As the Senior Vice President, General Manager, Military, you will be responsible for leading the team that provides internet service for subscribers on more than 75 military bases around the world, as well as driving new business opportunities in private 5G, commercial internet services and cellular support for the military.  Most importantly, you will be responsible for promoting a culture of people-driven teams, high performance, collaboration, and innovation. This is a remote position.

What the job entails:  

  • Direct report to Boingo CEO, with P&L responsibility for Boingo’s Military Business Unit
  • Lead a team of more than 75 marketing, business development, account management, product management, customer service, operations, and engineering professionals, most located across the United States and the world
  • Main areas of responsibility
    • Keep and grow existing monthly broadband business to targeted growth rates
    • Identify and grow new areas of opportunity on the bases including private services and private networks
    • Lead and identify new opportunities with the DOD that include Boingo in government funding and trials
    • Lead the contractual relationship within our contracts including AAFES, MCCS, etc
    • Grow the overall military business and be a great partner to the business opportunities on the bases with other departments without getting the P/L credit, i.e., Towers, small cells, offload
  • Work cross functionally with functional and business unit peers to drive revenue growth and control business unit costs
  • Foster a team environment to maintain and improve employee morale and motivation to improve the customer experience and thus drive revenue and margin growth
  • Keep abreast of the competition and overall operations of the market and partner with functional leaders to create long term value for the company and our customers.  Proactively identify opportunities for growing our business through existing relationships between functional areas or new opportunities and maximize business trends to support the changing needs in the industry and our customers.
  • Develop strong customer relationships with military leadership, including leadership on bases as well as at DoD functional commands and at the Pentagon to uncover business opportunities and acquire contracts
  • Develop cross-industry relationships to foster partnerships and improve contract acquisition opportunities
  • Maintain and improve customer service and network capabilities and KPIs

Got what it takes?  

  • 15+ years’ experience working in the telecommunications industry, with experience specifically in subscription-based internet services
  • 10+ years’ management and leadership experience, with 5+ years of P&L experience
  • Experience in the Federal and DOD space a plus
  • Proven ability to motivate team members to drive business growth and profitability
  • Excellent organizational skills and sound verbal, written and public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Sound business judgment and ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 25% of the year
  • Military senior enlisted or officer experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree preferred
