Your Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for a well rounded Senior Modern IT Operations Leader who will help lead our globally distributed infrastructure operations running on IBM Cloud, VMWare, and RedHat OpenShift.
This role will serve as a thought leader for Operations by working closely with IT and Platform leadership to fill emerging business needs and driving special projects. Successful candidates will have a broad enough technical background to be able to quickly become familiar with a new system or issue as needed by applying previous experience, curiosity and skills to to research and understand new topics. The ideal candidate will have a mix of software development and operations background with an emphasis on operations.

Role Description

• This role will report directly to the Senior IT Operations Manager for the global IT organization.
• Drive the modernization of practices and patterns that IT operations uses to perform their daily duties.
• Advise platform Development and Operations leadership on strategies and specific projects to reduce labor cost and scale operations.
• Bridge the gap between Dev, DevOps, and IT Operations to accelerate operational adoption of new technologies, including establishment of training plans, validation of runbooks, procedures, practices, etc.
• Be the voice for IT operations L1 staff to ensure their voice is heard in regards to modernization of day to day operations.
• Lead special teams toward completion of strategic initiatives.
• Join other operations leaders in incident response command.
• Help lead and coordinate large IT projects that require attention from multiple groups, such as DR tests, impactful facility maintenance work, large system upgrades, etc.
• Located near Atlanta, GA is preferred or the other IBM strategic locations listed: RTP, NC - Austin, TX - Boston, MA - Seattle, WA

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Experience in working with globally distributed teams
• 5+ years of combined experience in software engineering and or System Administration
• SME level Expertise in Ansible, Shell, Python, Terraform, Linux, Kubernetes, and Microservices
• Expertise in working with collecting, displaying and analyzing system metrics with Grafana and Prometheus
• Experienced in working within a regulated environment with full compliance and security implications

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Ability to work collaboratively in teams and develop meaningful relationships to achieve common goals
• Excellent communication skills, with ability to understand complicated problems and provide accurate technical feedback
• Good organization skills for planning and executing complex projects across various teams
• Broad background in system administration and software development
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, switching, firewalls, and encryption
• Experience in operating hybrid cloud workloads in production
• Experience in IT Architecture, IT Operations, in regulated environments
