TuSimple Company OverviewCome join a higher calling and find a deeper purpose!

TuSimple is a fully commercialized autonomous trucking company.   As a multi-national Artificial Intelligence Technology Company, we are at the epicenter of the Autonomous Vehicle Universe. Our breakthroughs are leading the industry in autonomous trucking.

While inventing the framework of Autonomous Driving, our live fleet of autonomous Trucks have fully evolved land freight.    TuSimple is leading the way by hiring the most talented researchers, engineers, and scientists.

TuSimple was founded half a decade ago with the goal of bringing the top minds in the world together to achieve the dream of a driverless truck solution. With a foundation in computer vision, algorithms, mapping, and Artificial Intelligence, TuSimple has created the first commercially viable Autonomous Freight Network.

Opportunity Overview

TuSimple is currently seeking an experienced Senior Manager - System Safety & Reliability to expand our system-level safety and reliability analysis capabilities to enable quantitative substantive safety evaluation. The successful person in this role will also develop the manufacturability, maintainability, environmental and other specialty engineering capabilities in preparation for production  release of our autonomous trucks.

This senior manager will lead a team of experienced safety engineers to develop functional safety and SOFIT related requirements. This Senior Manager will also lead a team of reliability engineers in developing advanced component, module and system-level failure models and performing end-to-end reliability assessments of our autonomous trucks. The models developed will cover structural mechanical, electrical, electronic, electromechanical, power, communications and powertrain components, along with software and firmware reliability. These reliability models will ultimately integrate into the system-level digital twins of each of TuSimple’s autonomous truck designs, thereby also supporting early stage architectural trade studies and V&V activities.

When combined with our rapidly growing MBSE, System Safety and Systems V&V functions, this team will support tighter integration of model-based design into our end-to-end engineering processes, with specific emphasis on ensuring safety robustness and reliability. This is a highly visible role, with strong cross-functional collaboration across Product, Systems, Test Operations and other Engineering functions. This function will be responsible for all safety analysis, reliability data analysis, statistical design of experiments, and reliability growth modeling necessary to enable rapid system-level design iterations, and will work in close collaboration with Hardware and Software Engineering functions.

The Senior Manager will report directly to the Director of Systems Engineering, and will grow our system-level reliability modeling and analysis competencies to enable rapid deployment of our Autonomous Freight Network. Given the extreme safety-criticality of autonomous freight applications, the reliability modeling & analysis provided by the System Reliability team acts as the first line of defense in quantitatively ensuring safety in all our designs and will support accelerated reliability requirements refinement within our existing agile framework.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead the team responsible for delivery of reliability models and analyses to ensure design conforms with reliability requirements
  • Act as a deep subject matter expert on the potential component failure modes within the system
  • Lead a team responsible for generating specialty engineering requirements (reliability, environmental, structural, maintainability, etc.) for products
  • Work closely with Systems, Software and Hardware engineering leadership to ensure tight connectivity and alignment with the overall MBSE and MBD process
  • Hire, develop and retain strong talent, building a state-of-the-art modeling  capability that maximizes model reuse & flexibility and accelerates understanding of system-level behaviors
  • Own selection of specialty engineering tools & processes necessary to efficiently perform reliability analysis, requirements generation, and book-keeping

  • Deep competence in at least one core robotics and autonomy discipline (i.e. sensing, systems control)
  • Experience with modeling of software, robotic or similarly complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, document & institutionalize new engineering tools & processes

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Controls, Robotics, Mechatronics or other modeling-centric field, including  Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Physics
