Responsible for planning, directing, or coordinating activities of an organization to ensure control design standards are developed and adhered to by 1st line process and control owners. Provide strategic input to develop control design standard and related tools and training for 1st line process and control owners. Demonstrate proven knowledge of and experience with banking or card products and services (e.g. retail deposits, unsecured personal loans, home equity, cards). Leverage control design/process reviews to identify and assess non-financial risks (e.g. compliance risk, operational risk) and the effectiveness and efficiency of controls, leveraging prior experience, enterprise standards, and sound industry practices (e.g. BASEL / COSO etc.).
Responsibilities
- Advise on risk/control identification and documentation standards
- Lead and provide oversight and guidance to a team of control design specialists who perform the following activities: - Execute process / control design activities (i.e. working sessions, effective challenge sessions etc.), including but not limited to:
- Identification and measurement of relevant risks
- Identification and assessment the adequacy of the controls to mitigate these risks
- Identification of gaps and recommendations on right-sized action plans
- Interpret regulatory requirements into process & control design needs
- Identify systemic improvement themes across control design reviews e.g. Training, Roles and Responsibilities, Communication, Standards that can be solved programmatically
- Support drafting of a comprehensive risk & control summary to highlight conclusions
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Finance or Engineering
- 8+ years of experience with Applied Sciences, Engineering, Operations, Accounting, Finance, Business or related field, Computer Science, Data Science, 2+ years of people management, or related experience
- In lieu of education experience, 6+ years’ experience with Internal Audit, Control Design, Control Self-Assessment
Preferred Qualifications
If we had our say, we’d also look for:
- Masters’ Degree in Finance or Accounting
- 2+ years of experience with Leading consulting firm, highly regulated environment, finance controller organization in an environment where internal controls is critical
- Certification in Control Self-Assessment upon hire
- Certified Internal Auditor upon hire
- RIMS-Certified Risk Management Professional in first year
