Position Overview
The Senior Manager, Government Partnerships & Projects position supports the Corporate Engineering and R&D Group with direct collaboration opportunities with all levels of Government. Primary goal will be to develop relationships and opportunities for joint R&D and technical research that align Magna objectives and funding with Government R&D strategy and projected legislation going forward. In addition, this role is also responsible for managing projects by ensuring project goals, timeline and budget are met.

This will be an office-based position, with occasional needs for both domestic and international travel for short periods. Visits to R&D partners, academic institutions, Government offices, Magna R&D locations and potential M&A targets will be required.
Physical Demands
No heavy lifting or physical duties required. Periods of sitting at a desk and use of computers are part of the day-to-day activities for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Keep up to date with Magna product and R&D strategy and activities.
- Develop and maintain plans for Government interaction on R&D product development programs and technical initiatives that are of interest to Magna (US, Canada, and Mexico).
- Maintain close ties and communication with the office of Director Government Affair's (DGA Magna Corporate), and representatives in Canada and Mexico
- Provide reports and summaries of initiatives available to magna
- Write pro-active proposals to Government departments, offices, and organizations for collaborative funding opportunities of fee for service opportunities that provide a win-win for Magna and Government
- Develop and maintain relationships with Government office and departments to ensure Magna profile is maintained and R&D activities are aligned where there are common objectives and strategy's
- Maintain and recommend along with the DGA meeting and integration for the executive management within Magna Corporate and associated divisions.
- Lead the planning, Organization, Execution and Coordination of assigned R&D programs (internal and/or external)
- Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, co-coordinate activities, calculating time requirements, sequencing project elements, and resolving problems to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Leads technical discussions with external partners including but not limited to national laboratories, research institutes, suppliers etc., for topics related to the projects.
- Analyze Engineering results and proposes changes to determine feasibility, improvement of component and systems, and functional and performance specifications.
- Prepares presentations, reports and publications working with stakeholders summarizing project findings and outcomes.
- Support the Corporate R&D group with technical evaluation of technologies and products being considered by Magna, including but not limited to technology deep dive, vehicle integration and application analysis, manufacturability, market, and cost analysis.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Engineering / Business.
- 10+ years experience in Engineering, Manufacturing or related industries with responsibilities or experience in Government programs and funding partnerships.
- Experience at Federal, State and Local Government levels.
