A Brief Summary of This Position:

You will serve as one of Valmont's principal Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) professionals ensuring overall company strategy and success in improving of EHS practices across the organization. This position, under the direction of the Vice President, EHS will partner with Corporate and Regional EHS leaders, site EHS representatives, and Operations leaders to develop or enhance, execute, and validate company EHS standards and processes to ensure regulatory compliance, minimize the risk of injuries and illnesses, and improve organizational EHS performance. This includes our EHS Playbook, Global EHS Standards, and other business level EHS support systems, programs, and tools that supports Valmont's EHS Management System. We ask that you have the experience and skills to develop technical, global EHS programs that can be implemented enterprise-wide delivering required results.

Essential Functions:

  • You will report directly into the Vice President, EHS and have no direct reports
  • This role requires up to 25% travel (domestic & International), including overnight stays
  • Enhance enterprise-wide standards and programs to facilitate regulatory compliance and minimize risk of injuries, illnesses, and environmental impact within an integrated EHS management system. Topics may include industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machine safety, hazardous energy control, work from heights, contractor safety, electrical safety, emergency preparedness and response and other important EHS topics.
  • Guide overall EHS excellence by providing technical expertise in implementing programs to improve EHS performance globally
  • Develop and lead programs to develop and track primary competencies required for EHS organization
  • Help with the institutionalization of the Valmont Safety Index (VSI) deliverables and reports on current state
  • Lead the development of the EHS training program
  • Develop and maintain risk assessment tools designed to identify exposure to safety hazards that can result in harm
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes and update our Valmont requirements to ensure compliance is maintained
  • Recognize and be able to integrate principle Continuous Improvement (Lean/CI) concepts into EHS and vice-versa
  • Partner with corporate and site leaders to ensure deployment of playbooks and standards within their respective areas of responsibility
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to concisely present information to team members at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and track projects through completion

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Ensure that mandatory Corporate/Divisional best practices are shared & implemented throughout the business
  • Help with audits, assessments and action plan development for any deficiencies noted from trends, audits, and inspections
  • Assist with mentoring site EHS professionals throughout Valmont
  • Stay current with legislated safety regulations.
  • Help with EHS inspections and audits of facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventive measures where necessary



Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelors' degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline with 7 years of relevant experience or Associate's degree with 9+ years of relevant experience or 11+ years of relevant experience
  • Progressively increasing environment, health, and safety responsibility with an emphasis on developing and implementing global programs and projects
  • Ability to lead and support business unit and site teams responsible for managing occupational safety risks
  • Prior proven experience developing, enhancing, and deploying a global EHS Management System
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA/NIOSH/NFPA/EPA regulations, standards, and practices



Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Certifications in the field such as the CSP, CIH, CHMM or other relevant certifications
  • Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), ISO 14001/45001 or related consensus standards

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting with regular visits to manufacturing facilities and locations. While visiting the manufacturing areas of the plant, use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is always required. You are regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, and talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Domestic and international travel represents up to 25% of the work schedule and includes transportation by vehicle and by air. This position requires movement around the office and manufacturing facilities and the ability to drive a vehicle to and from the various locations including the occasional transportation of other team members. This position may require lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, pivoting, reaching, standing, climbing stairs, handling, gripping, grasping and visually inspecting equipment. Overall, the physical effort level is considered light. Heavy equipment can be moved with a dolly or the aid of a hoist. Movement of heavy equipment is rare. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. You are frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. You are occasionally required to move about the office. You must use proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. You must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
