Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Geologist to be a technical leader supporting AECOM's vast portfolio of Department of Defense environmental investigation and remediation projects. Candidate may work from the San Diego, CA, Orange, CA, or Oakland, CA AECOM offices.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as task lead for remediation activities and coordinate the efforts of support staff
  • Gather and correlate scientific data using established and well-defined procedures
  • Assist with preparing Federal proposals for performance-based acquisitions
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients, regulators, and project stakeholders
  • Perform work in accordance with budget and schedule with minimal supervision
  • Utilize scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope
  • Prepare technical work plans and reports
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines
  • Coordinate with task and project managers, work with on-site subcontractors and field staff, support sampling, data collection, and field documentation.
  • Travel to various job sites within the US
  • Flexible to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety (H&S)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology
  • 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geology
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • 10+ years of Environmental Geology experience
  • 3 years' experience preparing proposals for environmental remediation design
  • Engineer in Training, and on track to obtain Professional Engineering license within 2 to 3 years
  • Experience investigating sites with conventional and emerging contaminants
  • Experience developing successful remedial solutions for performance-based acquisitions
  • Understanding of CERCLA, RCRA, Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act, and Clean Air Act regulations
  • Strong technical report writing skills and the ability to develop design specifications
  • Ability to assist with the preparation of cost estimates for remediation plans and activities
  • Must be able to travel periodically
  • Candidate must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA medical surveillance physical examination
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR training, and OSHA 10-hr or 30-hr Construction H&S certification preferred
  • Familiar with various environmental drilling and investigation methods
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable meeting with clients, colleagues, and subcontractors
  • Experience with DoD or commercial/industrial (railroad, petroleum, coal ash) clients
  • Experience with developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation strategies
  • Database, GIS, CAD, visualization software skills
  • Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner
  • Life cycle cost estimating, feasibility studies, environmental remedial design (e.g., soil vapor extraction, in situ bioremediation, pump and treat, etc.) proposal writing, and basic fate and transport modeling
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
