The Terminology Solutions department is responsible for the development and maintenance of content embodied in IMO products. Terminology Solutions is comprised of clinical terminologists, nonclinical terminology analysts, coding professionals, tool developers, and database experts on multiple teams. Clinical Terminologists work in collaboration with other teams to build a corpus of content data using complex technical tools primarily designed by IMO software teams.
The Senior Clinical Terminologist level position also requires taking responsibility for and leading smaller initiatives and exploratory endeavors. This level includes the ability to facilitate collaboration within the Clinical Team, and to collaborate frequently across teams. Additional responsibilities include making feasibility and level of effort assessments, as well as training others and providing feedback.
Responsibilities
- Complete cursory to extensive research through medical journals and other clinically valid sources for information on archaic to cutting-edge clinical and pharmaceutical terms. Knowledge and research are required for the development and improvement of client-requested terminology or complex terminology-based products, and to aid IMO in proactive terminology creation to support rapidly developing customer content needs.
- Populate and maintain complex, highly specialized terminology data sets, utilizing extensive pharmaceutical knowledge and first-hand clinical experience.
- Complete a broad range of clinically relevant steps required to link customer terms to IMO interface terminology, including new term creation and mapping of terms to standard terminologies such as RxNorm. Steps may include extensive analysis, QA processes, and customer communication.
- Provide customer support for clinically intensive questions, concerns, or requests relating to medication terminology, medication codesets, and the unique nuances of industry pharmacy/drug data, including customer communication when needed.
- Review standardized terminologies updates; analyze impacts to IMO content, products, and solutions. Performance of content maintenance, including term creation and mapping updates, as appropriate.
- Provide domain knowledge and terminology analysis in support of sales and marketing departments
- Complete data analysis and discovery using database tools, including writing SQL queries
- Maintain professional domain knowledge and frequently explore new areas of clinical knowledge to increase impact and effectiveness
- Perform feasibility and level of effort assessments under the guidance of SMEs/leadership
- Identification, evaluation, planning, or execution of quality or process improvement projects.
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (US or International) degree required with Clinical Pharmacy experience strongly preferred
- Formal informatics training or 3+ years of informatics experience. M.S. Informatics preferred
- Terminology experience working with (e.g. development using, mapping to, etc.) standardized clinical and drug vocabularies, including RxNorm strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of relational databases preferred
- Excellent English language grammar and vocabulary with American medical terminology required; experience with international terminology and clinical vocabularies a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A passion for and deep understanding of nuances of language and meaning
- Detail-oriented with an ability to consider larger-picture contexts
- Continuous improvement mindset, with a curious desire to answer “why” questions.
- Demonstrated ability to apply learning from one scenario to different situations.
- Willingness to lead projects and acquire new skills over time
