Risk Control Consulting Director - Lawyers Professional Liability
**Chicago or NYC area preferred. Willing to be flexible for the right candidate**
Job Summary
Recognized as the most senior level technical expert for Specialty Lines of Business involving risk control for lawyers and law firms. Qualified candidate will work with lawyers' professional liability ("lpl") risk control team, which is responsible for the overall assessment evaluation and/or delivery of risk control consulting services and technical support on the most complex risk exposures, to support underwriting profit and claims reduction goals. In conjunction with senior level management, works within the broadest limits of authority requiring the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination. Has extensive experience in the legal profession with experience in the insurance industry preferred.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborates with risk control team on the content and design of lawyers professional liability risk control services, products, and publications.
- Creates and presents lawyers professional liability risk control programs for state administrators/brokers and lawyer associations and groups across the country.
- Develops relationships with assigned state administrators/brokers to increase penetration of lawyers professional liability risk control services and meet customer needs.
- Conducts loss analysis on individual accounts or designated book of business to identify root cause trends and emerging issues and develops business solutions and products to minimize exposures with corresponding training materials to educate both internal and external customers on the issue as necessary.
- Assesses customer's risk control program needs and develops and executes a customized strategy and supporting implementation plan. Manages the delivery of direct evaluative and consultative services.
- Partners with underwriting, claim, actuarial, and other departments to provide information for risk evaluation and assessment on the most complex and/or sophisticated risks.
- Participates with senior management in the development and implementation of risk control policy and business strategy.
- Strategizes with marketing department to promote lawyers professional liability risk control services and products with state administrators/brokers.
- Develops relationships with assigned state administrators/brokers to increase penetration rate of lawyers professional liability risk control services and meet customer needs.
- Assists in management and oversight of third-party vendors contracting with the lawyers professional liability risk control team.
- Identifies opportunities for and/or develops new products and services.
- Helps manage risk control hotline and provides guidance and resources to CNA lawyer insureds.
- Mentors less experienced risk control staff and other functional areas.
- May participate in the development and presentation of education and training programs.
- Stays up to date on risk control issues and regulations industry activity and trends. May represent the company in industry trade groups.
- Travel may be required up to 25%

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
1. Legal experience with an emphasis on legal malpractice/ professional responsibility/ and risk control evaluation and assessment skills and knowledge of insurance and risk control principles practices and procedures.
2. Excellent communication negotiation marketing and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
3. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.

Education and Experience
1. Master's degree or equivalent experience, JD required. One or more professional designations preferred.
2. Active law license in one or more juristictions preferred
3. Typically a minimum of ten years legal experience with proven track record of results.
