Description
This position provides supervision and technical direction to a team of management employees (5-10 including contract/agency) engaged in Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance activity specializing in Product Safety Risk Assessment and Control System Functional Safety supporting various Caterpillar engineering design and system integration teams across the enterprise.
Reporting to this position are Engineering and Sr. Engineering Specialists focused on Technical Regulatory Compliance activity in the fields of Control System Functional Safety and Product Safety Risk Assessment. All team members are externally certified by a third party as accredited Functional Safety Engineers.
The incumbent needs to coach and facilitate the development of the work group to establish collaborative relationships among themselves, internal engineering group clients and process partners such as regulatory and litigation legal to ensure goals are achieved. Program/project management skills and organizational skills are critical along with deep technical skills associated with machine and engine control systems and knowledge of various applicable international standards and regulations. Position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills and ability to draw upon skills in Caterpillar Leadership competencies.
Job Duties
Lead a team of technical experts supporting various machine, engine and power systems product groups and systems integration teams across the enterprise
Coordinate teamwork schedules and audit activities with internal clients
Develop and present functional safety and risk assessment training to engineering teams across the enterprise
Lead or engage in various International Standards Development technical committees and working groups
Participate in various Industry Trade Association forums and dealer / customer engagements discussing technical subject matter
Conduct employee performance management reviews and facilitate career development activities
Interface with regulatory and litigation legal compliance teams and other internal process partners on matters impacting product safety and compliance
Lead core team strategy governance process and team meetings
Basic Qualifications
This position requires an accredited degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer or Industrial Engineering or Management, at least 15 years of work experience in product or control system design, development, validation or similar experience with electric power and machine controls and a TUV or similar agency certification as a Functional Safety Engineer or Expert.

The location for this position is Peoria, IL
Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Any relocation costs incurred would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
This position may require up to 25% travel.
