The mission of MNA is to foster sustainable growth with a focus on job creation and poverty reduction, economic and social inclusion, and good governance. MNA attaches importance to creating a supportive work environment based on the values of teamwork, transparency, trust, and client service, underlined by professional excellence. MNA places high value on diversity. MNA is organized in five Country Departments (CMUs), the Office of the Regional Chief Economist, the Development Effectiveness Unit (MNADE), and External Affairs Unit (MNAEC). CMUs are accountable for the overall country program, consistent with objectives articulated in the Country Partnership Framework (CPF). Based on work program agreements with the CMUs, sector staff and teams are accountable for delivering the portfolio of lending and non-lending products.

Sustainable Development in MNA

It also emphasizes the GP sub-sector and cross cutting themes, including but not limited to rural and subnational development, agriculture, disaster risk management, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and inclusion.

The knowledge program is also extensive, with an increasing focus on climate change resilience as a cross cutting theme. The SD group is leading on the implementation of the MNA Climate Change Roadmap and leading Country Climate Development Reports (CCDR) across the region. Areas of analytical work provided through a mix of AAA and Reimbursable Advisory Services include water resources management, agriculture and rural development, shared growth and inclusive services, land and water management, DRM and urban development, Gender Based Violence, Inclusion, among other areas. Relationships with the Bank across the IDA, IBRD and GCC RAS clients are very strong.

Sustainable Development practice group in MNA has a substantial lending and non-lending program in support of MNA clients. Total current portfolio consists of 44 projects for a total of $6.4Billion in commitments under implementation. This FY22, the lending deliverable will reach about $2.1B, consisting of about 18 new operations covering the range of clients. MNA SD also manages a large knowledge program, with a total of 58 active ASA. The majority of the program areas are implemented across SD practices, as well as several in close collaboration with other practice group, including several joint programs with FCI, Social Protection, Health and Education as well as Governance Global Practices.
