We are looking for a Purchasing Manager (Retail, Multi-unit) to be responsible for product vendor relationships, price and quantity negotiations, and identifying product trends in the marketplaces for all High Profile cannabis dispensary locations. Key responsibilities include establishing and managing key vendor relationships, ensuring timely and effective deliveries of merchandise and actively managing inventory levels. 

Position located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Experience in the cannabis industry required. Experience in the Michigan cannabis market highly preferred. 

In this role you will...

  • Responsible for development and implementation of SOPs, methods, and policies to advance the retail purchasing process and ensure it meets the needs of the company. 
  • Place orders and negotiate terms with various product vendors; develop, manage, and maintain relationships with product vendors; work closely with vendors to obtain trade samples for existing employees.
  • Build and foster relationships with a large portfolio of vendors. Develop and implement strategies by vendor, collaborating with Planning to analyze and respond to sales trends.
  • Set and maintain appropriate inventory levels relative to order size, and pricing strategies; have active knowledge of on-hand inventory for each location.
  • Collaborate with the Merchandising Planning Manager on the retail Product Master across all retail assets for cannabis and non- cannabis product, within company POS system.
  • Analyze and understand customer demand patterns to better inform purchasing decisions and inventory levels by analyzing on-hand data and researching upcoming trends in the product and vendor environment.
  • Actively follow the industry and seasonal trends, while also having a strong pulse on the competitive market and key influencers.
  • Work closely with Retail Leadership and Merchandise Planning Manager to determine pricing, promotion, and markdown strategies to drive sales and manage inventory levels while maximizing profit.
  • Participate in annual business planning, financial reporting, and budget forecasting for product category in partnership with the Merchandise Planning & Allocation Manager
  • Validate product assortment by analysis and make recommendations on presentation, items to discontinue, and items to develop.
  • Actively communicate with store teams to maintain pulse on clients, local market needs, and competitive landscape.
  • Partner with Inventory Management, Store Planning and Allocation on seasonal investment strategy by market to ensure big ideas and growth drivers are protected
  • Work closely with cross functional leaders in Marketing, Store Operations, Wholesale, IT, and Accounting to align with strategy and drive business.

Skills and experience you have... 

  • 6+ years Merchandising or Buying experience required, with Purchasing team and strategy management history. 
  • Experienced cross- category buyer with high vendor and sku count management history.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Advertising, Retail Management or related field
  • Experience understanding process flow and making improvements to deliver cost savings, inventory reduction, or other benefits to the company.
  • Highly analytical, capable of turning raw data into information and insights
  • Experience with ERP and/or Inventory Management systems; advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to develop and implement operational best practices.
  • Good judgment in a fast-moving environment with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks.
  • Must possess excellent business judgment, strong written and oral communication skills, and a practical, common sense approach to getting things done.
  • Regular travel to retail stores located in Michigan, and occasional travel to other states required.
  • Strong relationship building skills including negotiation and senior executive interaction.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, prior experience developing and managing a budget.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction, and to be both a manager and an individual contributor.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and able to pass a background check.
