Job Description:

Description: The Perinatal PI Coordinator must possess a background in both perinatal clinical care and performance improvement and patient safety. This position assists the perinatal quality program to promote delivery of optimal and efficient services throughout the continuum of care for the perinatal patient. The Perinatal PI Coordinator requires knowledge and skills in nursing practice, evidence based practices, perinatal centers, processes, principles of teaching, and quality improvement.
Typical Duties:

  1. Along with the Maternal and Neonatal Program Managers, will train and supervise perinatal nurse clinicians in performance improvement duties. Assists the Perinatal quality program with coordination, investigation, analysis and response to quality/patient safety issues, events, significant care issues and trends. Assists with assessing root cause analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and process improvement, while working with multidisciplinary teams.
  2. Assists with Texas Aim data collection and entry and any other appropriate data collection processes as determined by Maternal and Neonatal Program Managers, and/or Director.
  3. Supports the Perinatal Performance Improvements and Patient Safety Program (PIPS) through assisting with identification of complications, comorbidities and compliance with Perinatal Levels of Care and national guidelines.
  4. Participates in perinatal case reviews, escalation of events through quality committees, and linking performance improvement data to action plans, educational programs, and/or outreach.
  5. Participates in the Perinatal QAPI committees for planning, implementation and coordination of activities to maximize service, quality, effectiveness and efficiency.
  6. Works with an interprofessional team in facilitating the implementation of evidence based practice to optimize patient outcomes.
  7. Works with Maternal and Neonatal Program Managers, Director, and team to develop and analyze data for administrative and clinical decision making, as well as regulatory requirements.
  8. Monitors trend reports for Perinatal PI events and identifies opportunities to improve patient care or processes.
  9. Demonstrates event resolution through the timeliness and accuracy of reports and record keeping
  10. Monitors and reports completed actions for sustainment of success or need for continued action.
  11. Collaborates with Perinatal leadership team to validate accuracy of data elements used for PI dashboards and benchmarking.
  12. Participates in the delivery of education to members of the interprofessional team involved in the care of perinatal patients
  13. Demonstrates customer service behavior to all health care providers, pre-hospital providers, outside hospitals, clients, families, and peers/coworkers.
  14. Performs other job related duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

    Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • 5 years at either Labor and Delivery, at a facility with a Level III NICU or transfer program.
  • 5 plus years currently working in a healthcare environment.
  • EPIC experience.

  • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

  • Current RN licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
  • Certified in Inpatient Obstetrics or High Risk/ Low Risk Neonatal Nursing by National Certification Corporation Or ANCC

  • Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Masters of Science degree in Nursing or healthcare related field from an accredited school.

  • Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

  • Completion of Fetal Monitoring Certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification.
