Job Description

***Work Location is on-site at a Military Base in Catania, Sicily, Italy***

***Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain background clearance as required by government customer***

***This vacancy is for a U.S. DOD - Italy Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) position. Candidate must be willing to relocate to the Catania area in Sicily, Italy.***

***This is not a remote work or telework position.***

The U.S. Navy ELMR system is geographically the largest, most complex Motorola ASTRO P25 LMR system in the world. The Patch Manager FST serves as an instrumental role in this program. As the Patch Manager FST, you will be responsible for organizing patch implementation for the global ELMR enterprise. This includes working with the patch vetting/lab team, mediating monthly patch conference calls, and preparing the implementation plan ahead of the patching effort. The Patch Manager FST will also implement patches for the EURAFCENT region, which includes administering patches both locally and remotely.

Patching includes, but is not limited to, monthly patch updates to Windows clients, Windows servers, RHEL servers, McAfee AV updates, and SQL databases. Technical experience with these platforms is required. Outside of patch planning and implementation, the Patch Manager FST will support the EURAFCENT team for system and network sustainment activities. As an FST, it is necessary to provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience working in IT production environments.

  • Demonstrated experience patching in Windows and Linux environments

  • SOFA requirements dictate that the candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree, or Associate’s Degree plus 4 years of specialized experience, or a high school diploma plus eight years of specialized experience

  • Specialized experience includes IT systems administration, TCP/IP network administration, or similar within the Information Technology field

Responsibilities

  • Implementing patching updates as provided by the Motorola Solutions ASTRO Security Update Service

  • Some travel of up to 25% annually may be required

  • Must be willing and able to obtain DoD Secret-level clearance as required, including a Standard Form 86 questionnaire for national security positions

  • Assist the Master Site FSTs and Engineering team as needed during normal daily maintenance within the master site, dispatch sites, and RF sites

Required General Proficiencies

  • A good sense of teamwork is absolutely essential. Must be willing to work well with a cohesive team and be a good team player

  • Strong organization skills and a high attention to detail

  • Extensive verbal and written communication within the team and with the customer

  • Ability to use the Google Workspace suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.) and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Must have strong self-management skills and people skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers as well as other teams within Motorola Solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple concurrent responsibilities of varying priorities and shift focus from one to another with minimal loss of productivity or work quality

Required Technical Proficiencies

  • Experience patching Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Windows (including Windows Server), SQL Database, HP iLO, Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, and Direct Attached Storage (DAS) devices

  • Excellence in Windows and Red Hat Linux System Administration

  • Proficient TCP/IP networking knowledge

  • Must be in possession of the CompTIA Security+ certification or similar certification that satisfies IAT Level II certification requirements or capable of obtaining one within first 6 months of employment

  • Must be in possession of minimum ETA CETa certification or be capable of obtaining one within the first 6 months of employment

  • Proficient knowledge in use of tools such as PuTTY, WinSCP, Remote Desktop, VMWare vSphere, and similar software

  • Proficiency in administering HP ProLiant servers and iLO

  • Experience in administering VMware virtualization suites

  • Must be willing and able to obtain DoD Secret-level clearance as required, including a Standard Form 86 questionnaire for national security positions

Preferred Technical Proficiencies 

  • A high degree of TCP/IP network knowledge

  • Proficiency in administering Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, and Active Directory

  • Experience with or willing to learn Motorola’s proprietary software and hardware systems

  • Experience with one of the following: P25, LMR, RF infrastructure, Motorola ASTRO systems, radios and consoles

  • Experience with McAfee suite of security products and ePolicy Orchestrator and/or Host Base Security Systems (HBSS)

  • Experience in performing RF trunking site optimization or be willing to learn this skills


Basic Requirements

    • 4+ Years experience in one of the following: Electronics Technician, System Technologist, System Manager, or Field Service
    • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain background clearance as required by government customer
