Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM's Tech Re-Entry program is looking for talented technical professionals who are looking to restart their technical careers after an absence from the workforce of 12 months or more. This paid apprenticeship will enable you to work on projects that match your expertise, interests, and abilities and could lead to full-time employment.
During your IBM Tech Re-Entry apprenticeship program, you will have the opportunity to update your skills in a contemporary work environment. You will have access to the latest tools and technologies available and work alongside multi-disciplinary teams to hone your expertise and deliver on client-critical solutions. You'll be able to experience the breadth of IBM resources while developing new skills and relationships.
Re-Entry hires participate in ~6 month apprenticeships to refresh skills and prepare for transition to full time opportunities. The experience provides personalized technical learning to update and gain additional skills; earning badges and credentials along the way.

The Weather Company, an IBM Business, is looking for an energetic Operations Systems Engineer to be hands-on with essential functions for a bevy of systems that fall under the umbrella of the Engineering Operations team. The candidate will have the responsibility to develop, build in automation, optimizations, and set up policies for various systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with experience and knowledge in many areas of technology, including cloud technologies, particularly AWS.
This is a unique opportunity to be a jack-of-all trades in a non-dedicated developer role. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a variety of systems and performing a variety of functions. The candidate should bring experience in ETL, development, security, automation, scripting, and security frameworks working within an ecosystem of cloud infrastructure, monitoring tools, BI tools, and workflow automation.
This position will have the ability to help and lead how we configure and monitor our cloud environments. The candidate will adhere to the existing security posture of the organization, while also looking to enhance it where applicable. As an integral member of the Cloud Operations team, the Operations Systems Engineer will report directly to the Global Head of Engineering Operations and Strategy working and partnering with various stakeholders including operational teams, analysts, DevOps resources, and a variety of Engineering functional teams.

Primary Responsibilities• Serve as the primary developer on the Operations team to perform a variety of development functions• Set up ETL jobs as part of automation workflows• Participate in, and adhere to, professional software engineering practices using such tools and methodologies as Agile Software Development, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration, Source Code Management (git), Jira, and GitHub• Administer and maintain cloud policies utilizing CloudHealth or other tools, including but not limited to user account administration, regular system health checks, lambda functions for removing snapshots and disabling non-secure accounts• Execute API(RESTful APIs)calls to business systems to access key data that can be stored as part of our operational data set and used for analytical purposes• Identify, recommend, and implement cost optimization opportunities, including right sizing, shutting down instances, etc across TWC AWS cloud infrastructure• Work closely with the Operations Data Analyst to provide development needs to access or preparation to access key data• Help establish, set, implement, and maintain governance policies such as tagging for the collective accounts adhering to best security practices• Run queries as needed to get key information on systems• Perform ongoing security audits of IAM permissions and other AWS configurations, including producing the reports that can then be sent to teams to take appropriate action• Work on other projects as assigned such as rolling out system updates to other tools used within the technology stack that fall under the Operations team, such as Cloudhealth and Datadog• Serve as point of contact to respond to, and coordinate the resolution of any cloud security incidents

Required Technical and Professional Experience• Extensive AWS experience• Expertise in Scala or Java and Linux• Demonstrated and sustained success as a software engineer contributing to all parts of the software development life cycle• Ability to work within a fast-paced, operational and agile environment• Experience with Identity and Access Management Systems (IAM)• Experience in automation solutions using a variety of technical solutions including ETL, API calls, or other scripting• Ability to work in multiple languages, environments, systems, and tools• Strong SQL and Python skills• Experience in automation, identifying and recommending cost optimizations for cloud solutions• Ability to work with different personnel including other engineers, DevOPs, analysts, functional teams, and management
Desired Experience• Previous experience in System Administrator role supporting multiple types of systems• Hands-on experience provisioning cloud related services.• Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, QuickSight, etc• Knowledge of DevOps and Software Engineering practices and tooling• Experience with cloud cost management, governance, and performance software such as Cloudhealth• Familiarity with MS Excel, Google Sheets, or other spreadsheet software• Established security discipline with a desire for continuous learning and practice around latest security threat vectors, and how to mitigate risks around those threats• One of the following Security certifications a plus: CISSP, CCSP, CISM, CEH, GSEC• Experience with enterprise single sign on, such as W3id and familiarity with SAML and other protocols a plus
