Job Summary

As a Category Segmentation Merchant, you will have the exciting opportunity to work on a team that focuses on assortment segmentation efforts by creating and executing our category strategies via data analysis and collaboration with the Core Merchant group to ensure that we have the appropriate assortment in each store based on customer demographics to ultimately delight our customers and drive sales and profitability

Job Description

  • Experience Required: 5 to 7 years. Space Planning, Merchandising, Financial Analyst, SQL and Supply Chain experience
  • Experience Desired: Merchandising across multiple categories, sourcing, category analytics, space management, inventory management, Leading teams, cost management, operations, strong cross-functional skill set with the ability to lead and communicate effectively
  • Education Desired: Bachelors Degree


Job Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, & coach and lead the Segmentation team and manage all aspects of the Talent Development processes. (1-2 people)
  • By utilizing insights, in conjunction with the Sr Category Merchant of Segmentation, source the BEST IN CLASS assortment and vendors by creating segmentation principles and by targeting key differentiating assortment opportunities within each category to position Giant Eagle/Market District as THE destination for segment/demographic based assortment. Additionally, determine the appropriate dedicated macro space for each store based on these insights along with customer demographics to delight our customers and meet the Company's margin and revenue goals. This will be accomplished by working closely with the Core Merchant group, P&A COE, as well as the macro space and micro space teams.
  • Own the relationship with the Core merchant group, Micro and Macro space planning as well as with Retail to ensure we are maximizing the Segmentation opportunity. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with merchants, stores, logistics, supply chain, marketing, store of the future, and our existing supplier base as well as potential new suppliers to profitably increase sales. Understand flow of product knowledge to collaborate with supply chain on source of product and flow type for best mix and inventory productivity for the warehouse.
  • Interact closely with our Supplier Diversity Team as new supplier opportunities are identified through item mix segmentation insights. This will ensure that we are considering all potential items and suppliers based on the demographic insights by store.
  • By working closely with the core merchant group, identify trends in new item introductions launched (including at our competitors) to ensure that our segmentation principles are followed for all new item introductions. Additionally, based on the segmentation insights, seek out potential new items/vendors by attending trade shows.
  • Own the monitor and recommendation of performance of segmentation categories and assortment for LOB entry and exit.
  • Assist the Sr Category Merchant of Segmentation in creating and developing the Seasonal segmentation strategies for stores based on community, regional, seasonal data to meet or exceed financial targets.
  • Assist in Building Store level assortments for Closeout product to align with capacity targets, store performance data, and drive higher inventory productivity
