The MDE Shift Manager's primary responsibility is to direct engineering work and supervising the four shift Lead Engineers. This will include coordination of the team efforts to maintain safety, cycle time, equipment availability, quality, training, TPM, and moves performance.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Safety & Quality • Completes all required safety training and ensures all work is conducted in accordance with safety policies• Drives a proactive safety culture and support the execution of EHS and PHA management systems• Identifies areas of improvement and drives the team towards continuous improvements • Performs and facilitates audits and submits good catches on safety issues• Follows-up on safety and quality related issues and drives towards resolution• Operates and maintains the area according to documentation and guidelines to ensure safety and quality expectations are met • Uses best known practices and network resources to stay aligned on best known methods
Communication & Collaboration • Communicates well, both written and verbally, showing and a proven ability to present highly technical information to internal and external audiences • Partners with ODE and IE to develop effective plans for area improvements and completion of goals• Improves communication and collaboration with area, department, and network partners, as well as with any external customers• Collaborates with department peers to identify and align on benchmark methods for optimizing area performance
Technical/Data Analysis• Identifies opportunities and develops plans to improve OpUp, reduce LTD and minimize unscheduled events• Provides troubleshooting support for complex problems and address root causes• Serves as a key area resource for technical support and/or providing required technical resources to support TD requirements• Drives shift cost reduction activities
Project Management/Planning• Manages projects to ensure deliverables are completed within the required scope, schedule and budget• Tracks actions and provides escalation path or resources to ensure actions will be completed on time• Drives team to focus on priority issues and stay within the scope of the project• Coordinates and leads meetings and initiates follow-up actions• Supports department business processes for process transfer to high volume manufacturing sites• Partners with Procurement, PDE, PI, Planning, and manufacturing on identifying area gaps and support on projects to optimize area performance
Performance Management • Serves as manager of Shift Lead Engineers/Lead Technicians• Conducts regular performance management and professional development of direct reports through clear expectations and accountability• Ensures direct reports utilize the performance management tools, including maintaining documentation to capture feedback, plans, and progress to support performance rating• Ensures team members complete all assigned tasks before critical deadlines are passed by maintaining open dialogue and feedback• Defines organizational roles to meet the overall job expectations of the team • Knows Micron policies and partners closely with HR• Ensures the area has succession plans for all key positions• Provides guidance to identify, develop and promote technical expertise (process, device, equipment, etc.)• Meets regularly with team members to review performance, provide feedback and create development plans utilizing SuccessFactors• Partners with direct reports to create long/short-term goals and projects that meet individual needs and the needs of the department
Fab Performance• Collaborates with manufacturing and planning to maximize area output and minimize wait and lost time• Drives LTD reductions, MA improvements, and excursion prevention to optimize overall fab performance • Prioritizes projects and area focus on correcting tactical issues that impact productivity, as well as developing strategic solutions to achieve long term improvements• Partners with manufacturing and planning to optimize the workstation balance in the area
Successful Candidates must have the following Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to lead a technical team to meet area and department goals
  • Proven ability to manage the performance of direct reports
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor team members
  • Proven ability to lead by example in demonstrating Micron values and leadership competencies
  • Advanced understanding of the manufacturing requirements in the area
  • Advanced PC skills including a familiarity with MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MICAP, Ariba, and MAXIMO
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to efficiently organize teams and projects
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate meetings and initiate follow-up actions
  • Strong partnering, negotiation and teamwork skills
  • Strong leadership skills with the proven ability to coordinate efforts across a variety of groups
  • Leads a technical team to meet area and department goals
  • Manages the performance of direct reports and mentor the team
  • Proven ability to multi-task complex projects Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to present highly technical information to internal and external audiences
  • Strong knowledge of area processes and equipment, and some cross functional knowledge of all fab process areas


Education & Experience

  • Required: BS in an engineering related field or equivalent industry experience, 4 years of fab engineering experience, and currently an E3 or higher.
  • Preferred: Previous leadership experience.
