Map Curation Lead

The Strategy & Content team is responsible for the design, development, and execution of strategic initiatives, with a focus on driving product innovation, content creativity, and audience growth. The Content team’s vision is to make Discover & Community the fastest way to be entertained and informed — combining Friend Stories with community content from other Snapchatters, short-form entertainment content from top creators, and personalized, timely news from trustworthy sources. The team helps protect the long-term health of this ecosystem by constantly balancing the interests of content consumers, content creators, advertisers, and Snap.
We are looking for an editorial lead to oversee our Map Stories curation team!
What you’ll do:
Play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our fast-moving news-driven Map product from an editorial point of view
Oversee a team of map curators, identifying and curating stories, in the US and potentially around the world
Help lead a team that can work efficiently and thoughtfully across key markets and in multiple languages
Work hand-in-hand with Product to continue improving the Map experience
Use data alongside your editorial judgement to help us grow and achieve our goals
Think creatively and enthusiastically about how to evolve the Maps experience on Snapchat
You’ll help lead a global effort to identify key news, social and cultural events happening around the world, and curate stories from Snapchat users that reflect them on the Map
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Deep understanding of newsroom best practices and ethics
Advanced copywriting and editing skills: a keen eye for typos, a knack for sharp, concise writing, and the ability to coach less experienced team members
Excellent editorial judgment, and the ability to identify and produce stories that will resonate with Snapchat’s audience and be inclusive to all
Enthusiasm and energy to grow, experiment and iterate on a new and evolving product
Ability to work fast, hit deadlines, multi-task and stay calm under pressure
A highly motivated team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, but also works well autonomously
Enthusiasm for a variable schedule that will include early, late and weekend shifts
This role will include a schedule that will involve weekend and evening work
Minimum Qualifications:
A college degree or equivalent experience in a similar role
5+ years experience in writing, editing, video production or other similar roles in digital media.
2+ years experience managing people and teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Video production and editing skills (Premiere, After Effects) are a strong plus
