About the team and position

The Safe & Secure Campus Team helps to keep our 17,000+ associates, who work at our 100+ various locations, Safe & Secure everyday. By collaborating with various Carvana teams the Safe and Secure Campus Team delivers strategic planning, Safe & Secure program development, Safe & Secure technology innovation, Safe & Secure processes, data analytics, crisis management, and project management. In partnership with the Field Safe & Secure Team, Safe & Secure Operations Team, and the Safe & Secure Support Team - the Safe and Secure Campus Team is an integral part of our Safe & Secure Organization.

The Manager, Safe & Secure Incident Management will serve as the leader and subject matter expert for critical event planning and response. The successful candidate will lead the Safe & Secure Incident Management Program in the identification and mitigation of opportunities to improve the security and physical safety of our associates, assets, and profitability. In collaboration with various business functions, this leader will gain consensus and build cross functional project teams to implement solutions across our network of businesses. This leader will play a key role in helping shape the tactical direction of our Safe & Secure threat and incident management programs and manage the business integration efforts with key HQ stakeholders (Product, HR, Legal, Wholesale, etc.). The ideal candidate will have experience at the corporate and field level gaining commitment to security and/or operational efforts, implementing large scale projects, and driving agreed-upon results for companies with thousands of employees across varied US locations, preferably in both retail or distribution settings. The ideal candidate must possess leadership and people management skills, superior communication skills, quantitative rigor, and must be capable of working independently and collaboratively with Carvana’s varied operational functions. Most importantly, you will see your insights have an immediate, tangible impact every day in a disruptive and rapidly growing company.  

What you’ll be doing

  • Assess the enterprise and develop processes to successfully manage incidents and threats for multiple business areas within the company.
  • Manage intake, assessment and response for incident escalations of all types from field and corporate sites. Partner with other stakeholders as necessary to drive incident resolution.
  • Identify and assess workplace violence incidents and behaviors of concern, providing mitigation recommendations for highly complex problems.
  • Utilize key data sources, relationships with key stakeholders, input from the field Safe & Secure Team, and other sources to determine priority business opportunities related to site incident management, coordinated response for large scale events, and their relationship company profitability.
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop solutions to identified opportunities. Pilot possible solutions utilizing cross functional teams to ensure the solution is efficient, effective, and scalable across the network. Leverage data to measure effectiveness and scalability.
  • Build and lead project plans that implement solutions to appropriate business areas. Gain partnership in the planning process and ensure timelines and budgets are met. Communicate across various audiences to ensure proper engagement and accountability are delivered.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager of Campus Safe & Secure  and the Field Leaders of Safe & Secure to plan/develop annual organizational goals. Partner with Finance and other business partners to ensure appropriate resources are aligned to deliver on goals (capital and expense planning), including implementing a scorecard process to measure performance to agreed-upon KPIs.
  • Design, deploy and report on initiatives that impact the mission of Safe & Secure Incident Response.
  • Build and develop a team of Safe & Secure incident response professionals who will provide support and expertise to operational groups across Carvana’s businesses. 
  • Design, track, and report on key performance indicators and exception-based reporting to help mitigate risk and identify trends and root causes, including working with Risk and Operations groups to determine how to collect, store, and organize data relevant to field Safe & Secure.
  • Meet regularly with Carvana business partners to understand how Safe & Secure can be integrated in key business processes to ensure organizational goals are met.
  • Provide consistent communication to relevant business leaders regarding project tracking and KPI delivery.
  • Exercise prudent discretion regarding confidential and sensitive incident information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Domestic travel required – 20-30%.

  • Program Deployment schedule accuracy versus goal.
  • Site incident response rate/accuracy versus goal.
  • Training Development/Completion versus goal.
  • Project Delivery (Quality, Effectiveness, and Timeliness).


What you should know/have

  • Bachelor’s Degree (in related field) from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5 years of security/incident/crisis management leadership experience, preferably including retail, distribution, warehousing, and fulfillment.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading security/operational projects in a large scale organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience with executive and C-Suite level personnel.
  • Exceptional judgment and critical decision making skills.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven skill set. (Six Sigma Certification Preferred)
  • Strong Program Management Experience.
  • Experience working closely and communicating effectively with a diverse set of stakeholders in an ever-changing, rapid growth environment with tight deadlines; Ability to take initiative in a constantly-changing work environment while maintaining flexibility and a collaborative attitude.
  • Experience developing and implementing process improvement(s).
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Experience managing capital and expense budgets.
  • Ability and commitment to promote the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate school or university. 
  • Extensive knowledge of GSuite and Google Workspace systems.
