Manager, Operations Engineering
The Manager, Operations Engineering will lead a small and nimble team of Operations (Splunk) Engineers in the provision of expert security engineering support to deepwatch customers through the deepwatch managed service offerings. deepwatch Operations (Splunk) Engineers are responsible for the development, implementation, configuration, operation, management, testing, tuning, and optimization of all systems and resources within deepwatch.
The Manager, Operations Engineering is responsible for the prioritization and disposition of all Engineering inquiries, tickets, tasks and allocates engineering resources in accordance with appropriate priority and capabilities of team members. Further, the Manager, Operations Engineering will be responsible for the planning, execution, and communication of Operations Engineering projects and initiatives. This role will have extensive accountability to deepwatch Delivery Operations teams and deepwatch Customers.
Candidates must display the aptitude and ability to manage a team responsible for a multitude of virtual resources in a fast paced environment. This position is virtual / remote working from a home office unless at a client site.
Position Responsibilities

  • Execute and deliver on the strategy set forth by the Director, Operations Engineering
  • Lead of a team of Operations (Splunk) Engineers to include hiring, performance management, compensation and termination, following deepwatch policies and practices
  • On an ongoing basis, evaluate individual and team skills, knowledge, experience and execute plans to mitigate/address weaknesses and leverage strengths
  • Establish and continually refine processes related to Engineering tickets, tasks and inquiries to ensure optimal outcomes for deepwatch Customers (through Security Operations)
  • Explore, solicit, and champion new ways to streamline and automate common recurring and repetitive engineering tasks or issues
  • Resolve prioritization and other conflicts operationally on behalf of the Operations Engineering team; provide justification for decisions to deepwatch Security Operations, Leadership and other stakeholders
  • Serve as the central point of escalation for technical issues
  • Interface with varied customer bases, including leadership and support roles, as required and in coordination with deepwatch Security Operations
  • Provide project management, resource allocation, communication and other support as required for cross-functional, enterprise, and/or customer-impacting Engineering projects
  • Maintain common project outlines as they relate to engineering within deepwatch Analytics (migrations, onboardings, etc..)
  • Provide input to the forecasting of technical need, staffing projections, and solutions for budgeting
  • Ensure adherence with standards and best practices for all components of deepwatch's engineering stack, focusing on the following priorities:
    • Log Onboarding
    • Splunk Architecture related to deepwatch Analytics
    • Ticket Hygiene
    • Operating System level configurations as it relates to deepwatch Analytics
  • Critically analyze security operations for process improvement
  • Support deepwatch Security Operations and Senior Leadership Team as needed
  • Keep up-to-date with information security news, techniques, and trends

Requirements
Required Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • 5+ years of cyber security professional services delivery experience, with preference for Managed Security Services including monitoring, incident response or related
  • Expert communications skills, including a mastery of the English language both written and spoken
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Experience managing complex issues, and coordinating solutions across multiple business lines
  • Availability for after-hours calls, night and weekend work
  • Ability to develop a track record of sound decision making, taking ownership and delivering results in a leadership role
  • Experience working in fast paced environments and the ability to manage workload even during times of stress or escalated activity
  • Experience utilizing mass communication/corporate notification systems and case management systems
  • Ticketing system response and hygiene
  • Operational support in cybersecurity or information technology operations
  • Written and verbal communications with varying levels of technical and cybersecurity maturity
  • Independent self-starter
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background and drug screen in accordance with applicable laws


Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity or related discipline
  • 3+ leadership experience including responsibility for hiring, performance management, compensation and termination
  • Prior experience setting and managing operating budgets
  • Proficiency with engineering Splunk; Splunk Certifications (Admin & Architect highly preferred)
  • Linux System Administration (CentOS, RedHat, Ubuntu)
  • Network Architecture
  • Managed Services delivery
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Microsoft Azure
  • DevOps software (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc)
  • Third-party threat intelligence tools


Colorado Candidates:
Minimum salary of one hundred twelve thousand dollars + stock options + benefits. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
