The Localization team supports Coursera’s mission by making Coursera accessible to people whose native language isn’t English. We engage with a passionate, global community of learners who translate our courses into over 50 different languages. We partner with Content, Product, and Marketing teams to make our platform and content available in multiple languages, and to continue to improve the Coursera experience for learners all over the world. 


As the Manager, Localization Services, you will manage a team of Localization Program Managers who will work with 3rd party translation vendors to execute on course translation projects. You will also collaborate with cross functional teams to make our content accessible and improve the learning experience for learners all over the world. Some examples of improvement projects are testing ML translation services, voice over services and utilizing our active translator community.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow the team of Localization Program Managers as our translation needs increase YoY
  • Plan and manage translation projects, maintaining frequent and effective communication with multiple vendors and ensuring timely deliveries
  • Set up processes with sales and content teams to control the inflow of translation requests and work with sales teams to negotiate custom deliverables for enterprise clients and content partners
  • Set overall strategic direction for localization process and tools, including ML translation, voiceover and community driven initiatives
  • Develop metrics to determine impact and strategic opportunities to increase our localized footprint

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as a program manager working with XFN teams
  • 2+ years as people manager, leading a team of project managers and/or coordinators
  • Experience building localization program to operate at scale (getting leadership buy-in)
  • Experience with web UI and multimedia content localization workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical proficiency, ability to learn new tools and processes quickly
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and to radiate positivity even while under pressure
  • A passion for our mission, and achieving ambitious goals to bring high-quality educational experience to learners around the world
  • Community management experience, such as: forum moderation, direct interaction, community building
  • Understanding of common issues and risks involved in localization projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
