Mission Summary

Motional’s Engineering Technical Programs Organization is looking for an experienced Lead TPM to lead and grow the Compute and Onboard Runtime Environment (CORE) TPM organization  as we get ready to launch driverless robotaxi on public roads. This role directly supports the CORE organization on a cross-functional mission that requires careful collaboration and management across the different development organizations within software and beyond. The CORE organization at Motional is responsible for the compute platform from the low level Operating system to the middleware and all the core functionality needed to manage the core compute platform to ensure compliant and safe run time operations on the vehicle.

The Lead TPM for CORE will have both deep technical and program expertise with a mindset and that can drive results with agility and leadership. Have an influence that span many dimensions as you engage to understand, solve and accomplish great things. Inspire and wear multiple hats — bringing the whole team with you. Build and lead a world-class team of TPM’s capable of scaling through a period of continued high-growth while forging tight partnerships with managers and engineers across infrastructure organization.

As a Technical Program Manager, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers. You will work closely with architects, software engineers, QA, product managers and other engineering teams to get high-quality products and features through the software project lifecycle (build, test and release on time). You will be leading several technical programs for the CORE organization, setting priorities for products and engineering, leading cross-functional teams to realize against product requirements, ensuring success metrics are informing future efforts, and quickly fine tuning the program as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years software engineering, systems engineering or technical product/program management experience.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, embedded systems, SoCs, real time networking are highly valued.
  • Experience in problem solving within fast-paced and constantly changing environments.
  • Experience working cross-functionally in a highly integrated team composed of both technical and non-technical members.
  • Experience in communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
  • Keep up a high velocity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience with modern development and operating practices

Bonus Points: 

Demonstrated experience building, grooming, and mentoring technical program management or engineering teams, and a proven track record of scaling infrastructure in a highly transformative environment.
