About the job
The IT Communications team is looking for an experienced communicator to join our growing team as an IT Communications Specialist on a contract basis with the potential to convert to full-time in future. In this role, you will partner with IT associates and the Red Hat Internal Communications team to assist with IT communication efforts. You will help develop and implement effective IT communication strategies and create and publish a variety of content including newsletters, intranet pages, videos, podcasts, and more. In addition, you will help grow the IT brand through communication both inside and outside of IT. You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to create engaging content for a variety of IT-focused internal channels. You should be goal-oriented, organized, detail-oriented, and customer-focused. You'll need to be motivated with the ability to work as part of a team and have experience with and passion for communications and marketing. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Develop content in partnership with IT departments and the Internal Communications team to tell the broader IT story and communicate relevant and timely news and announcements
  • Help maintain a communications strategy and editorial calendar, mapping audiences for the variety of needs encompassed throughout IT and Red Hat
  • Ensure that all communications sent from IT to major corporate channels are on brand, on message, and high quality
  • Coach IT associates on IT brand, voice, and style strategy
  • Manage IT intranet pages for Red Hat and internal IT audience
  • Assist with cross-functional IT Communications Advisory Board meetings
  • Plan and carry out internal events and communications related to IT's mission, strategy, and priorities
  • Write and distribute IT newsletter via email and intranet
  • Coordinate with other associates to develop digital communications, multimedia, and scripts
  • Help build the IT brand both inside and outside of IT

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated exceptional writing and editing skills; ability to write for multiple audiences and optimize content for different channels of communication
  • Expertise in writing, editing, proper use of AP style, grammar and punctuation
  • Ability to edit work of others and give diplomatic feedback; ability to accept and incorporate others' feedback regarding your own work
  • Excellent presentation skills for both giving presentations and managing other speakers
  • Excellent customer focus and listening skills
  • Detail-oriented with solid project management and organization skills; detail-oriented
  • Ability to track, incorporate, and prioritize input from multiple parties while maintaining meaning and quality
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to cope with ambiguity and the ability to work effectively and creatively in a complex organizational setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with and the ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external partners
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and success working with organizational and external partners or customers to support their communications efforts


The following are considered a plus:

  • Technical acumen and experience in an IT environment
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, journalism, writing, or editing
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of HTML and WYSIWYG intranet platforms
