About the job
The Red Hat IT team is looking for an IT Business Manager to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you'll report to the Director, IT Technology Business Management Office (TBMO), and contribute to the IT department's strategic planning, operations, and delivery. You will provide strategic leadership, guide alignment, and focus on operational excellence across the Technology Business Management team and IT. This is a new role aimed at developing a model to support senior IT leaders in managing their monthly cost plans, and understanding future impacts based on demand, projects, and resource needs of their respective departments.
As an IT Business Manager, you'll need a solid technology and financial management background and high energy and initiative. You will serve as the trusted adviser to an IT department's extended leadership team, and serve as the key point of contact for the TBMO enabling effective business and financial planning. You will provide strategic business planning leadership, participate in and facilitate overall strategy discussions, and enable effective annual planning and monthly financial reviews, including project and portfolio management. In addition, you will lead IT Showback efforts aimed at developing our TBM practices supporting IT Services and Capabilities. To succeed in this role, you'll need a balance of leadership, strategic thinking, cross-group collaboration, influence skills, and outstanding communication.
What you will do

  • Act as a key partner and advisor to the TBMO Director, the IT Directs (to CIO) and teams, and our Finance support team
  • Manage the development of the IT Business Management role and how it operates within the IT department
  • Provide practical support and significantly improve processes associated with the use and practice of Apptio's IT Planning and Forecasting and Cost Transparency tools
  • Review IT department financial forecasts monthly with the IT cost center managers to assist in making updates and ensuring key data is up to date; provide outlook into material changes as well as cost savings or avoidance opportunities
  • Work with Apptio financial, headcount, and KPI reports to provide meaningful and insightful commentary and analysis to enable the organization to operate effectively
  • Support IT Showback by working directly with senior managers in IT to develop a clear understanding of the services and capabilities that IT provides and manage the effort to determine fully burdened cost and associated cost drivers
  • Work with the TBMO team to implement changes as needed to services and capabilities to represent how IT operates today
  • Develop a plan to operationalize Showback into the business processes of the IT Department you are supporting
  • Ensure streamlined activities within the organization, based on leadership priorities
  • Work across multiple teams to help connect the moving parts in a very dynamic and changing environment
  • Stay up to date on IT best practices, emerging technologies, and operational strategies and use the information to inform the work of TBMO and IT teams


What you will bring

  • 3+ years of experience with Apptio's IT Planning and Forecasting product
  • Bachelor's in computer science, IT business management, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience with corporate financial planning process and solid knowledge of accounting principles
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels
  • Excellent analytical and proven problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to deliver in the face of ambiguity, change, and tight deadlines
  • Effective consultative and influencing approach
  • Ability to innovate in new and changing conditions
  • Extremely versatile, dedicated to efficient productivity
  • High proficiency and experience working with Google Sheets, documents and slides or with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, preferably with Pivot Tables, formulas, and data manipulation
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and adapt to changing requirements and short notice requests
