Group Lead/Manager - (GES DISC/PPS)

We are seeking Group Lead (GL) candidates to be responsible for the Group Lead management for the Goddard Earth Science Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC)/Precipitation Processing System (PPS) Group on the Space and Earth Science Data Analysis (SESDA) contract. The Group Lead position is only a part-time (approximately .1 FTE) extension of the current team member's role, and not a full-time position.

SESDA supports a broad range of science disciplines, including solar and space plasma physics, astrophysics and astronomy, planetary studies, atmospheric science and climatology, oceanography, land processes, geodynamics and solid earth geographics. It also provides for the development and use of scientific computer systems; engineering data analysis systems; engineering efforts to develop new technologies for scientific instrumentation; software application development and implementation; and computer system management for science exploration research, and the SESDA group's team members support these efforts.

The Group Lead is responsible for ensuring that the work accomplishments and highlights performed by the group's team members are gathered and documented, providing monthly reporting to the SESDA KBR Program Manager (PM). The selected candidate will serve as the principal interface (for the group) with the Program Manager; Coordinates and monitors the group's technical performance and ensures the group's adherence to plans, schedules and training; Approves timesheets, and generates Performance Evaluations, conducts employee Performance Reviews, and coordinates with senior management on Annual Salary Reviews and employee's annual merit increases.

This Group Lead position reports to the KBR Program Manager for the SESDA Contract.

Responsibilities of Group Lead:

  • Provide monthly accomplishments/highlights.
  • Approve weekly timesheets for the GES DISC/PPS employees.
  • Perform annual reviews for KBR employees, including obtaining feedback from gov't sponsors, entering submissions in Workday, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Coordinate with PM on hiring for new and replacement KBR positions, including participating in developing job descriptions, screening resumes, coordinating interviews, participating in hiring decisions.
  • Work with Prime contractor to gather and pass along requests and/or status to PM.
  • Able to handle full software life cycle for multiple projects with minimum direction from customer.
  • Maintain Sensor Data Processing Segment (SDPS) of Precipitation Processing System (PPS) in support of the NASA Global Precipitation Measuring (GPM) mission.
  • Train operators on proper procedures for operating SDPS.
  • Develop and maintain REST API used for distribution of scientific products in multiple environments.
  • Maintain C/C++ libraries used for bit level manipulation of satellite and scientific data.
  • Provide Configuration Management for multiple libraries and applications.
  • Maintain Level 1A scientific/engineering processing applications for GPM and Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM).
  • Generate monthly reports on FTPS/HTTPS usage for multiple systems.
  • Present operational status to international partners.
  • Write documentation in support of all assigned tasks.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Experience in a lead or manager position
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant lead or management experience
  • Established customer relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to develop exceptional customer relationships
  • Experience in managing groups of at least 5-10 employees
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams in a dynamic operational environment
  • Strong consensus building and team building skills
