PURPOSE: This position serves as the professional leader of the Advanced Trainer Engineering and is directly responsible for the engineering efforts to support future product development, mature product stability, and research & development needed to support the product line. This includes hiring qualified engineers, manage employees within the group, managing product production, service training and support, overseeing the research and development of new products utilizing the latest technologies for welder training and development.

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

  • Apply engineering and scientific principles in the design and execution of development projects. Assignments are comprehensive in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity, often beyond the specific field of specialization.
  • Group Leaders have responsibility for the planning and general direction of development activities associated with an entire product line (e.g. VRTEX, All-In-One Headset, RealWeld, and Welding Booth Tools, etc).
  • Develop new welding training tools utilizing Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Learning Management Systems in accordance with company policies/procedures and in consideration of;
    • market needs, requiring direct collaboration with customers, sales and marketing.
    • industry standards/specifications, and
    • manufacturing process capabilities, requiring direct collaboration with manufacturing and methods personnel.
  • Establish standards and methodologies for and conducts evaluations of product performance, personnel performance and work practices.
  • Develop and refine test methods, procedures and specifications, as applicable, to support new product development and product evaluations.
  • Facilitate development of manufacturing process capabilities to support introduction of new products. Often act in liaison capacity with other departments, divisions and organizations.
  • Typically, lead and direct others in project execution. Review progress and evaluate results. Operate with considerable latitude for independent action or decision.
  • Provide direction and leadership (mentoring) to Technicians, Technologists and/or Engineers. Responsible for managing resources on specific projects or tasks.
  • Maintain records of all work in process and documents interim/final results in the applicable format. These include Project Definitions, Milestone Plans, ES Reports, Technical Reports, Project Tracking Progress Reports and presentations at meetings/seminars.
  • Understand the Company's EHS Policy and how it relates to this job.
  • Be aware of OSHA and EPA laws and regulations as well as the Company's Plant Rules and Regulations that pertain to this job.
  • Work in a safe manner and observe all company EHS procedures.
  • Follow safe equipment operating procedures and only operate equipment when guards are in place and in good condition.
  • Know that the company EHS procedures are contained in reference books, such as, SSW Specifications, Plant Rules and Regulations, and Material Safety Data Sheets, which are located in the Consumable R&D office area.
  • Immediately notify the supervisor if there is any safety hazard, any equipment not operating correctly, or if there are any questions regarding EHS procedures.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company's 2025 Strategy.


BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum BS degree in software engineering and/or related technical field.
  • Minimum 8 years software engineering and/or software design experience preferred.
  • Possess and apply a comprehensive knowledge of engineering and scientific principles, practices and procedures, within the field of specialization, to the completion of significant assignments. Frequently crosses fields outside the specific field of specialization.
  • Possess well developed leadership qualities.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of MSWord, MSExcel, MSAccess and MSPowerPoint, as a minimum.
  • Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma and statistical Design of Experiments methodologies.
  • Possess and apply both practical and fundamental understanding of various welding processes. Processes include, but are not limited to, SMAW, GMAW, SAW and FCAW.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work effectively as team member and team leader.
