In recent years, GM Information Technology has successfully executed the largest IT transformation in the history of the automotive industry, fully insourcing what once was a nearly completely outsourced IT function. Today GM IT is a dynamic and fast paced organization that designs, develops and maintains all IT infrastructure, applications and solutions enabling GM's global operations. From designing and building the next generation of electric and other vehicles to developing a world-class GM experience for our dealers and customers, GM IT is driving real change in the most iconic automaker on the planet.
This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. Relocation may be provided.
Location: Warren, MI or Austin, TX
The GM Defense IT Reporting Lead will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the reporting framework necessary to support several key areas related to the overall GM Defense IT support model. Examples include financial reporting, portfolio planning, the integrated GMD IT project plan, compliance dashboards, etc. The objective of this responsibility will be to use data and analytics to drive transparency and provide insights into the broad spectrum of IT efforts underway on behalf of GM Defense.
For this GM position, we expect you to function independently for day to day tasks. You will be required to work with numerous teams and balance competing requests. The strongest candidate will bring a blend of professional and analytics experiences demonstrating their applied skillset to bring order and structure to enterprise level day to day challenges.
GM Defense engages with government and defense customers and must conform to DoD regulatory requirements for defense contractors. All IT solutions must consider Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Support (DFARS) and International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) criteria for contractors and defense manufacturers. The business is engaging a broader spectrum of resources from across the company and the number of workstreams to support is requiring a new level of organization and intention. In parallel, the depth and scope of GM Defense IT implementations continues to develop, metrics driven reporting and management becomes increasingly critical. Further, as GM Defense is awarded new contracts, tracking of IT efforts in a manner that complies with government contracting requirements is key. This role will be key to meet these needs.
Additional Description
Responsibilities:

  • Work with GMD IT director to enhance financial reporting framework to track/report on IT work in support of GM Defense. This role requires engagement with members of the GM Defense and Corporate finance organization.
  • Build the annual IT integrated project plan and lead bi-weekly, cross-functional sessions to ensure strong project/program execution
  • Partner with members of the GMD IT team in the development of metrics and dashboards to support compliance-related efforts
  • Manage the support of GM Defense IT SharePoint site
  • Work with area leads to identify GMD IT business records, assist with retention/disposal and compliance with overall ILM policy


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong data analytical skills. Experience analyzing raw data, dissecting high level information, validating/verifying results, and packaging results suitable for various audiences or presentations
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel including pivot table creation, vlookup execution, color-coded formula generation, etc.
  • Strong reporting capabilities including examples of reports generated in previous roles
  • Working understanding of Sharepoint administration
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills collaborating within smaller sized teams
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize tasks across multiple activities in parallel
  • Works well in high stress and/or tight deadline situations
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Information Systems or related field and at least 3 years of experience in the IT function.
    or
    At least 5 years of experience in the Information Technology function or another horizontal business function (e.g., Finance).
  • Additional skills include proficiency in Cognos, Business Objects and/or Power BI
