About the Role:

The Facilities Technician will support daily operations by providing facilities and maintenance support services, plus assisting with construction and renovation projects, PM’s & repairs, handles invoices and PO’s, and day-to-day facility operations. This position works closely with the Office Manager, Lab Manager, Facilities Coordinator, Sr. Staff Engineer, Director of Facilities & Engineering and Property Management. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter individual as well as a strong team player. Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working on own initiative with limited supervision. This position requires on-site presence in the Redwood City, CA office Monday through Friday during day-time working hours.

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact on all building, facilities matters, and employee workspace needs.
  • Manage and negotiate vendor contracts for all repairs, maintenance, HVAC, electrical and construction enhancement activity.
  • Supervise on-site vendor and contractor activity for maintenance and improvements including electrical, lighting, audio/visual, cabling, plumbing, utilities, and HVAC.
  • Coordinate vendors, service providers and facilities staff as required to ensure excellent coordination and execution of work within facilities with minimal disruption to workforce productivity.
  • Oversee the building functions, including lighting, HVAC, backup power, continuous monitoring system, and all other building support as needed.
  • Coordinate environmental health and safety program (including fire drills, evacuation procedures, emergency equipment) and ensure compliance with all facility regulations.
  • Maintain and support facility upkeep and record documentation.
  • Respond to facility operation emergencies (power outage, fire alarm activation, water/gas leakage, IT/servers issues, etc.) and perform root cause analysis.
  • Provide day-to-day support to lab manager and stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide periodic project updates to the direct manager as requested.
  • Perform basic HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, painting, cleaning, custodial, maintenance & repair as needed.
  • Partner with key customers and vendors to align on and implement service and efficiency improvements.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • 5-10 years of experience in facility operations and/or general building services or office management. 
  • Strong work ethic, availability, responsiveness, and a proactive mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail and efficient problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to complete project work while at the same time attending to work that is urgent.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a diverse group of staff.
  • Exhibits professionalism and composure in stressful situations and in meeting short deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google products.
  • Experience providing support in a fast-paced environment (experience with high growth start-up environments is a plus).
  • Ability to work independently without day-to-day oversight.
