Position Summary:

The Site Search Operations Specialist will coordinate site search optimization activities across the company's two primary websites, with the goal of improving on-site search experience for our various product and content collections in a way that meets both customer needs and business objectives-with a specific focus on content/data creation and management.

This specialist will collaborate closely with colleagues and stakeholders in search engineering, content creation and governance, marketing, regional website management, product management, and other areas of the company in order to collect requirements, analytics, issues, and opportunities for enhancing site search functions.

The specialist will understand how the search technology on both sites works, but maintain a focus on how enterprise content should be structured and maintained to best facilitate recall. In that capacity, the specialist will develop best practices and guidelines for content/data creation and management, and help consult and train business partners on how to best manage their content for site search performance. "Content" includes a number of specific content types: structured product data, informational web pages, documents, videos, interactive objects, data repositories such as knowledge bases and FAQs, and more.

The specialist will proactively monitor search data, and look for areas to improve performance and better meet user needs/business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise between the site search operations team and business stakeholders, providing training, best practices, and consultation on product and content site search performance.
  • Work with the search engineering team to understand how the search engine indexes products and content, and maintain content development guidelines from that. Propose opportunities for technology enhancements, if needed.
  • Help manage various search performance enhancement projects, often in coordination with business stakeholders, and track the impact of those efforts.
  • Develop and maintain best practices and guidelines documentation to inform and guide colleagues.
  • Monitor search analytics dashboards, looking for red flags and opportunities for improvements. Propose initiatives based on those insights.
  • Develop process and governance standards to collect critical search performance data and content, as part of existing processes.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent years of applicable experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing content and data on a large, complex e-commerce website-preferably in a scientific industry.
  • Knowledge of site search algorithm principles.
  • Understanding of content management principles such as taxonomy and information architecture.
  • Understanding of web analytics platforms, user testing and insights methods, and A/B testing.
  • Familiarity with data science methodologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing.
  • Familiarity with Agile ways of team organization and function.
  • Familiarity with scientific topics and products a plus.
