Position Title:Enterprise Risk Associate

Reports To:Director of Enterprise Risk Management

Department:Risk Management

FLSA Status:Exempt

Purpose:Five Star Bank seeks an enthusiastic enterprise risk professional to collaborate with the Chief Risk Officer and Director Enterprise Risk Management to administer and facilitate the Company's Enterprise Risk Management ("ERM") Program to effectively identity, assess and report on the Company's major enterprise risks across various risk domains (strategic, credit, market liquidity, operational, compliance and legal risks). This function will be responsible for the oversight and management of the suite of Second Line of Defense reporting, including regular reporting to Management-level Committees (Company Risk, Executive Management, etc.) and the Board of Directors and its Committees.

Essential Functions:

  1. Risk Appetite - Collaborate with Risk leadership and line of business leaders, including members of executive management to continue to develop the Company's Enterprise Risk Management Program, including setting the risk appetite and developing Key Risk Indicators ("KRIs") to measure and monitor risk threats to the Company's strategic objectives.
  2. Manage and oversee the production of various risk reports and analytics produced by Risk Management and provided to Lines of Business and other Second-Line functions, covering asset quality, exposure concentration (e.g., geography, industry, segment), economic trends/condition, etc.), operational risk, etc. Continuously identify and recommend opportunities for improvement and enhancement. Provide value-added insight and commentary (trends, business drivers, etc.) to support reporting.
  3. Responsible for agenda setting and preparation of meeting materials, presentations to Management-level Committees and the Board of Directors and its Committees. Ensure that reporting provided corresponds and address the Company's major risks and other emerging risk topics, trends, etc. Continuously identify and recommend opportunities for improvement. Recommend additional agenda-topics that will be value-add to governance committees outside of recurring reports.
  4. Collaborate with colleagues in Risk Management, Lines of Business and other functional areas to develop Key Risk Indicators for measuring and monitoring alignment with the Risk Appetite Statement. Set R-A-G thresholds for monitoring and reporting KRIs.
  5. Develop deep dive analysis and key risk indicators to monitor risk trends and work with Line of Business leaders to identify mitigation plans to better manage risk.
  6. Partner with colleagues in Risk Management and to perform enterprise-level risk-assessments. Work with Line of Business leaders to perform individual risk-assessment at the business-unit level and facilitate risk-assessment workshops focused on risk identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting on Top Risks across the organization, including status of ongoing mitigations plans.
  7. Collaborate with Risk Management and Compliance leadership to manage and coordinate responses to regulatory examinations (Safety & Soundness, Consumer Compliance). Perform quality assurance to ensure responses satisfy Examiner requests.
  8. Actively observe for areas where prior work experience may provide benefit to the Company and bring those ideas to the Chief Risk Officer and Director of Enterprise Risk Management for discussion.
  9. Demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience in every interaction with internal and external customers, associates, and stakeholders. Incorporate the high-performance behaviors of teamwork, leading by example, and service in every facet of work.

Job Related Qualifications - Education and Prior Experience:

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Prior Experience: 5+ years of experience in risk management role or similar.



Preferred:

  • Prior Experience: Prior experience in financial services or banking is strongly preferred.



Competencies:

  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong sense of ownership in project ownership.
  2. Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills with ability to learn and utilize new and existing banking software applications. Strong ability to consume large volume of information / data and synthesize to meaningful reporting to Executive Management, Management-level Committees and the Board of Directors and its Committees.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of Company employees.
  4. Ability to assimilate and interpret analysis and trends in order to reach conclusions regarding the type and magnitude of risk across all risk types andbusinesses for strategic decision-making purposes.
  5. Knowledge of the COSO Internal Control and Enterprise Risk Management - Integrated Framework.
  6. Knowledge of SOX requirements, processes and development of risks and controls.
  7. Ability to work independently to a deadline with limited supervision.



Physical Requirements:

  1. Able to regularly sit for prolonged periods of time.
  2. Able to travel occasionally.
  3. Extensive computer usage is required.
