Description
Caterpillar is developing components and systems for microgrid applications. The role of a Microgrid Control and Software Engineer is to develop controls and software for energy storage inverters. Development of controls is needed to meet new UL grid tie standards and complex system designs. As a part of the controls and software team you will work to gather requirements for new products and applications. Simulation of the plant and controls is needed to ensure the control algorithms can meet the requirements. You will implementation of these controls systems on embedded controllers and test them on HIL systems. As a part of this role you will need to update plant models on the HIL systems. You will participate in validation testing in the lab and in the field. Once the systems are installed in the field data will need to be analyzed to resolve issues.
Job Duties
Understand grid-tie standards such as UL1741
Gather requirements for controls and software
Implement control algorithms using model based design
Collaborate with the HIL team to verify the controls and software
Complete software related documentation
Participate in controls and software validation in test cells and on machine
Present validation results to systems teams
Analyze field data to resolve filed issues
Basic Qualifications
MS or PHD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on microgrid, inverter or electrical machine controls
Experience with model-based design or Simulink control systems modeling
Top Candidates will also have
Understanding of UL grid-tie standards
Experience with OPAL-RT HIL systems
Experience implementing controls in embedded controls hardware
Experience with microgrid and energy storage inverters
Experience with Vector CANape and CANanalyzer
Desire to work in a fast-paced team environment
Excellent problem-solving capabilities
Excellent communication skills
