Job Dimensions:

Manages Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) processes for the Howmet Wheel's and Transportation Products (HWS) Business Unit (BU) at the Cleveland, Ohio location. The position is responsible for directing safety and health activities to ensure regulatory and Howmet EHS standard compliance and successful implementation of EHS management system. Coaches and provides mentorship to departmental leadership in the execution of EHS accountabilities.

  • Providing leadership for EHS processes for the HWS BU. Position reports to the HWS Plant Manufacturing Manager and works in a matrix environment with daily connecting with the EHS Team of the Howmet Forgings and Extrusions BU at the Cleveland Works.
  • The position also works with the HWS EHS Director to assure alignment with Corporate initiatives.
  • This position must influence plant leadership, engineering and other support staff to perform at a high level for EHS.
  • External relationships include contacts with Division/Howmet EHS staff, government representatives, suppliers, equipment vendors, contractors and others on matters related to EHS.
  • The position will require expertise in Safety and Health with limited Environmental oversight.
  • The position may be called upon on occasion to support EHS activities or projects at our Barberton plant.



Major Activities & Key Challenges:

  • Establish a culture that is aligned with Howmet EHS goals and objectives, with continuous EHS improvements. Spends time on the plant floor being visible and interacting with employees on the EHS Process
  • Manage, direct, coach, lead, and motivate plant personnel to achieve EHS goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner, while continuously striving to improve skills.
  • Planning, directing, and coordinating EHS compliance activities through functional teams, direction of HWS Manufacturing Mgr. and direction from HWS EHS Director.
  • Act as key EHS liaison with location manufacturing and maintenance organizations assisting in the execution of their strategic and tactical EHS plans.
  • Leads the development and implementation of Health and Safety programs and activities for the HWS plants to achieve, maintain and exceed compliance with relevant regulatory laws and regulations as well as comply with Howmet policies, standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate location Human Performance (HP) implementation including, Behavior Safety Observation Processes and critical safety compliance audits of employee behaviors and plant activities.
  • Facilitate implementation of safety and health systems including Industrial Hygiene programs.
  • Lead the coordination and completion of designated HS ASAT protocols and overall ASAT process.
  • Lead investigation teams to assure prompt, thorough incident review; make appropriate corrective action recommendations and entry into IHS and item closure tracking.
  • Identify and develop good working relationships with federal, state and local authorities (i.e., safety agencies, fire departments, etc.) as well as appropriate EHS contacts.
  • Develop, coordinate and/or conduct EHS training programs.
  • Coordinate and assist in the execution of capital EHS projects to ensure compliance with requirements and completion on a timely basis. This includes recommendation of EHS capital equipment purchases and other equipment to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Lead and influence the Cleveland facility to achieve and maintain a world-class Howmet employee and contractor EHS Processes.
  • Lead and assist employee safety teams to understand and own safety and compliance down to the lowest level.
  • Assist in Workers Compensation process at the Cleveland facility.
  • Provides support to the HSS EHS Manager for Environmental Compliance. Represents HWS in executing the Site Master Service Agreement.
  • Participates on the Cleveland Lead Team and provide strategic oversight of EHS.
  • Ensures Management is informed of current EHS issues
  • Coordinates Howmet EHS metrics reporting
  • Coordinates industrial hygiene and occupational health programs.
  • Administers organization's PPE program
