PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

BGE's Economic Development Team is looking for innovative, collaborative and strategic leaders to advance and execute BGE's Economic Development strategy toattract, retain and expand business and industry in the company's service area, foster equitable economic development and form strategic partnerships to grow the Central Maryland economy.

Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Accountability

• Management and implementation of high impact projects, initiatives and programs that support economic development, business attraction and increased electric load through proactive relationship management with key economic development stakeholders at the state, regional and local levels; management of strategic engagements with commercial and industrial developers; and facilitation of internal business partner collaboration to advance business siting opportunities for prospective new service area customers.
• Serve as ambassador of BGE's leadership and impact on the state's economic vitality to external stakeholders and customers. Communicate the energy-related strengths of our respective regions to site location consultants and other stakeholders.
• Management of inquiries regarding system capacity, scope of work, and cost information from economic development stakeholders for prospective new customers.
• Support and/or lead utility strategic growth opportunities (e.g. connected communities, energy storage, clean gas alternatives).
• Provide leadership and oversight for large growth opportunities by activating internal cross-departmental team to lead assessment of opportunities through pre-service phase; Provide oversight for large construction projects through project lifecycle to maintain economic development or business focus.
• Facilitate data collection and analysis associated with economic impact and other reporting.
• Collaborate closely with internal partners in Large Projects, New Business, Transmission/Distribution Planning, Strategy and Regulatory, as well as partners within Exelon strategy and sister utilities economic development teams.
• Work with Marketing and Communications teams to manage the promotion and marketing of economic development programs, incentives and resources for business attraction and retention efforts including the BGE/Economic Development webpage.
• Build and maintain database systems for tracking prospective businesses, retention program impacts, and rate estimation system.
• Support business unit leadership with corporate initiatives as required.

Qualifications

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Minimum:

• BS or BA degree required
• 8-10 years relevant experience
• Highly effective interpersonal skills, including negotiation and facilitation, and the ability to collaborate with people both inside and outside of the company, often at high levels.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Comfort level in front of senior leaders and external audiences ranging from 25 to 125+ attendees.
• Strong leadership skills to provide functional direction, guidance, and support to peers and leaders across the organization.
• Ability to independently lead initiative or project teams where the scope and outcomes are undefined.
• Ability to provide direction, advice, and guidance on regulatory and policy matters pertinent to other areas of the company.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of the electric and gas utility industry and current issues relevant to it.
• Knowledge of the utility industry, and an understanding of corporate and regulatory strategy and policies.
• Strong leadership skills to provide functional direction, guidance, and support to direct report and peers.
• Strong working knowledge of PC word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Business, Economics or financial disciplines

-Experience with technical, operational and customer-facing teams

-Working knowledge of BGE electric distribution and transmission systems

-Demonstrated experience building effective relationships with external stakeholders
