The Director of Operational Engineering role in Arcadia has a significant role in the operational management and the performance of the team working under them. They own the product's operational phase (from transition to deployment to production health.) The right candidate has a strong understanding of the end-to-end software development lifecycle, but with a focus on the deployment, upgrade-ability, maintenance and on-going health of our systems.
What Success Looks Like
In 3 months- Network with the technical and product teams to understand product roadmaps and release schedules- Work with your teams to determine areas of improvement- Assess the team for needs, skillset, and expertise to the current product goals
In 6 months- A strong understanding of the operations of our products- Designed and testing production operations playbook- Understand the strategy behind operational success for our company and our clients- Develop the team's skill and process requirements for success- Capture roadmap needs to further optimize and improve our operational engineering functions
In 12 months- Have moved our operational engineering teams further to a DevOps mindset while providing the needed support to our systems and customers- Implemented an improved production operations playbook
What You'll Be Doing
- Serving as a key member of the technology team contributing to the company's strategic direction with a focus on bridging the engineering and product efforts with those of the operational engineering and product support teams
- Working with Engineering and Product (as liaison to operational engineering teams and CTO ) on work planning, estimates and release scheduling including upgrades and ongoing maintenance to our product software
- Providing leadership over the deployment, upgrade, system health and incident management of our production software
- Providing strategic guidance and leadership over problem reduction and improvement management (proactively work to improve our systems and management)
- Ensuring that operational support needs are addressed during the software development lifecycle development process
- Providing hands-on project management or oversight when required to drive department and/or projects forward
- Ensuring continuous delivery of technical and support services with end users and monitoring of systems and software performance
- Providing technical input and leadership to formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for staff, technical releases, production support and projects
- Providing technical input and leadership to the operational engineering team to ensure that priorities are defined, requirements are developed and appropriate processes are established in support of the product management life cycle to continue the delivery and deployment of our software
- Working with Chief Security advisor to the enterprise to assure compliance
- Accountable for team decisions around Planned/KLO Ratio, expected velocity, product-specific release calendar, and versioning
- Continuously improving the team's process
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years of experience in leading or owning software delivery in a high-paced operational environment (Senior)
- Expertise in SRE and DevOps concepts
- Provide track record in metrics driver team performance improvement
- Expertise in more than one software technology
- Experience in cloud-based IaaS
- Skilled in data presentation, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking
