Company Description

The Director of Sample Evolution is responsible for building and executing a strategy for improving the collection and utility of primary data sample for BASES work now and into the future.

Job Description

● Drives greater utility of the BASES panel, developing new approaches and partnerships that increase how effectively we can recruit and maintain respondents and increase their response rates. This includes developing, vetting, and implementing a strategy for recruiting, incentives, and overall panelist experience.

● Identifies, validates and implements non-traditional methods to supply sample to unserved or emerging business needs. This includes finding more effective ways to reach and supply sample for hard-to-reach consumer groups as well as providing efficient access to valid sample for new business lines and products (i.e., new verticals, etc.). This could involve the building of our own sub-panels for hard-to-reach or special sample groups (moms of babies, US Hispanics, etc.)

● Scans the marketplace for novel approaches in primary sample that drive greater sample access and efficiency and more commercial and consultative value. Validates and implements approaches and methods that are deemed valuable by leading efforts to bring these methods into our current panels or by establishing partnerships with new vendors.

● Own initial contract negotiations with new vendors and suppliers in the “novel approaches/non-traditional” space, ensuring terms and costs that are advantageous to BASES.

Partners closely with internal stakeholders such as Commercial and Product Leadership to shape our sample acquisition strategies, understanding sample needs not adequately being met, identifying future needs and working jointly to uncover ways to add more value to our sample. 

should this be all vendors, or should we clarify that this is for vendors identified for these specific asks? If the latter, I think we can change "new" to "identified". And should also include in here that it is the initial vetting and contract negotiation process. 

Key interface relationships (internal and external):

Global role. Interacts with associates and vendor representatives at a variety of levels, including the most senior levels. Works closely with Panel and Field Operations Teams, Applications Development team, Data Quality, Data Sciences, and internal & external sample teams. Will have some interaction with Commercial. Also works closely with vendors, making decisions on who we work with and managing vendor contracts. Must have strong communication, influencing and situational analysis skills.

Number of employees indirectly managed: numerous; depends upon the initiative.

Qualifications

● Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of work or equivalent work experience.

● Possesses 7+ years of relevant professional work experience, especially market research field or panel operations

● Experiencing successfully managing contract negotiations and long-term relationships with vendors.

● Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills

● Interest in exploring and developing a strong understanding of new methods and technologies.

● Demonstrated leadership ability in a team environment; leads by example.

● Experience in scoping and managing large projects. Ability to communicate direction, vision, and complex ideas effectively. Keeps the project team aligned to vision and success factors throughout the life of the initiative.

● Has an entrepreneurial mind-set. Takes ownership for defining the vision and priorities for the evolution of our sample methods and drives the successful outcome of initiatives he/she is leading.

● Ability to collaborate with and influence clients, internal colleagues, and vendors.

● Demonstrated ability lead conversations with senior leadership (internal and external)

● Ability to work with cross-functional teams to deliver on a common goal.

Organizational and time management skills.

Has successfully led impactful process improvement initiatives
